Welcome to The Gambia, Ambassador Socha! Ambassador Laurence Socha arrived in Banjul to begin his tenure as the new U.S. Ambassador to The Gambia. With nearly 20 years of diplomatic experience, he looks forward to getting to know The Gambia and its people and strengthening the longstanding partnership between our two countries.

We continue to celebrate Freedom 250 – the milestone 250th anniversary of the United States. Last week, we hosted dozens of alumni of U.S. government-funded exchange programs spanning 2010 to the present. Chargé d’Affaires Robert Anderson hosted the event, reflecting on the enduring impact of U.S. exchange programs. "Each of you represents a living bridge between our two nations,” CDA Anderson said. “The relationships you have built with Americans and the leadership you continue to demonstrate in your communities strengthen the ties between our countries and create opportunities that benefit both Americans and Gambians.” Many alumni in attendance began their journeys as emerging voices in The Gambia and have since grown into leaders across sectors.
