This is the exact opposite of what Mamdani ran on. He promised to arrest Netanyahu. Now Netanyahu is escorted to the UN by his NYPD while that same NYPD arrests people protesting him, including politicians endorsed by Mamdani. And we’re supposed to treat their arrests as resistance without asking the obvious question: why is Mamdani’s NYPD arresting them in the first place? What are they doing to hold him accountable for that publicly? Mamdani chose to keep Jessica Tisch. If his administration opposes these arrests, he has power over NYPD policy and leadership. Demand that he use it. Instead, people keep peddling this fiction that Mamdani is powerless and his hands are tied. If his own supporters preemptively excuse him from using the powers he does have, what incentive is there to fight to fulfill the promise they elected him on? Meanwhile the pro-Israel establishment will continue demanding concession after concession. Why would any elected official take protest movements or their demands seriously if even when their preferred candidate takes power, they refuse to pressure him to use it? We went from “arrest Netanyahu” to arresting the people protesting Netanyahu.
