"A spokesman for the @OpenUniversity said: 'We don’t comment on cases post-settlement...'"
Post-settlement?
Two years ago, pre-settlement, they told the same paper that "ongoing legal proceedings" meant they could not "comment further at this time".

It's almost an Iron Law of Whistleblowing that the whistleblower ends up being investigated while whatever they are reporting is ignored
NHS Sussex and NHS England were formally warned Brighton trans doctor was out of control in 2020, documents show. Whistleblower alleges unknown number of children harmed as eventual investigation (which began in 2025) had limited scope.

I am getting bloody tired of the campaigners who are so focused on migrant crimes against women and girls they ignore the home grown variety.
Almut Gadow retweeted
A strong implication here that this horrific murder was committed by a migrant, and plenty of responses running with that narrative.
Meanwhile the victim's white, middle class husband has been arrested.
The problem is, and has always been, men.
A GP. A mother of three. Dead in her own home in Dersingham, a mile from Sandringham, while she was hosting a sleepover for her children’s friends.
Police called at 2.20am. Children taken out of the house to safety. A man in his 40s arrested on suspicion of murder.
She had left a previous practice to spend more time with her young family. Neighbours say she was a lovely woman. They also say this is the sort of village where you can leave the car unlocked all night and nothing happens.
That Britain is gone.
Not in a city centre at closing time. In a detached house backing onto the King’s estate, during a kids’ sleepover. If a family doctor is not safe in her own home in a “crime-free” Norfolk village, stop telling people the danger is somewhere else.
The suspect has not been named. The investigation is at the start. None of that changes what those children were in the house for.
Rest in peace, Dr Hannah Terry.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Mark Cain, husband of Dr Hannah Terry, has been charged with her murder. Domestic murders occur in rural villages and cities alike.

If men like you hadn’t equated women wanting single sex space with fascism for years and years you wouldn’t have created the opportunity for far right men to pose as their protectors.
There is a terf to far right pipeline.
And you helped lay half of it.
I do wish we were free from the brand of feminism that isolates women as the only and most put upon marginalised group. That allows so called feminism to be weaponised against other marginalised groups, and lets that feminism be a tool of other group’s oppression despite being present in most of those other marginalised groups.
When balaclava clad men on the street say they are “protecting women & children” against migrants, many of them women and children, they are invoking this false flag feminism.
When TERFs call their transphobia “protection of women” against transgender people it is that same brand of false flag feminism that they are invoking.
Straight white women, migrant women, LGBT women are all deserving of the same dignity, equality and protection. That shouldn’t be a difficult concept for those who fight for women’s rights.

Yes. Dislike a court decision, strip out the legal context, label the judge a “lefty”, then yell “two-tier justice”.

This Ronson-Linehan duel, and the broader gender-critical flirtation with MAGA, proves once again that tribalism "rulez", always and everywhere. And a faux tribalism at that. That Linehan or Trump believe that biological sex is real doesn't make them allies to be defended at all costs. *A rights movement is not NATO*. You don't invoke Article 5 and send troops when a member of your tribe does something wrong.

Some people are trying to argue that Cofnas wás suspended for whistleblowing. Why don't you check for yourself? @mboudry, who also signed the petition by @sapinker and others, shared the letter the @UGent-rector sent to Cofnas: xitter.cf/mboudry/status/2090742…
I will not try to defend that letter, as I personally find it indefensible. But it is bad enough as it is: it is defamatory to misrepresent it as the petition does, claiming that the university's motivation was that Cofnas was a whistleblower against Arday. That was not the motivation, not even partially.
As you can read for yourself, the motivation consisted of the following main allegations:
* Breach of contract.
* Racist or discriminatory public statements.
* Disparaging statements toward other academics. [Only this part refers to Arday, as Cofnas called him "mentally disabled" and "a worthless scholar". The complaint is nót that Cofnas pointed out misconduct or fraud.]
* Harm to staff and student well-being (amounting to a heckler's veto).
* Reputational harm to the university.
In my view, none of these constitute a valid reason to suspend Cofnas' academic freedom, not even close. Yet, however strongly I may feel this way, I can accept that reasonable people can disagree on this. The motivation has *some* merit.
What reasonable people will never disagree on is that one may (or even should) flag academic misconduct whenever one encounters it, without being punished for it.
For this reason, I urge the petitioners to withdraw the petition and launch it again with accurate framing and an apology to @UGent for misrepresenting its motivation in a defamatory manner. I will then happily sign it, like I did with the previous petition in support of @nathancofnas' academic freedom.
I support @nathancofnas's academic freedom, as I believe it is a defining value of a university. I signed a previous letter in support of his academic freedom.
But I wil nót sign this letter, as it is dishonest and defamatory for my university @ugent to suggest he is (or risks being) punished for whistleblowing.
There is simply no basis for that claim.
The allegations against him are different, and although imho the allegations I'm aware of are insufficiently grave to overrule the crucial value of academic freedom, they do have some merit.
One can support academic freedom without lying. This letter is a disgrace. There's a reason @sapinker restricts comments on his post.
Ghent uni was aware of Cofnas’ *beliefs* when they hired him, and defended their appointment of a man with such views at the time.
His department then emphasised that he was not hired to work on intelligence or race, but on the future of liberalism.
Replying to @UOzkirimli
If a university were to dismiss an academic because of their beliefs, do you think they would say that in the letter? Or do you think they would cover it with claims about working outside of his area, brining the uni into disrepute and so on?
