Dubai's ambition in gold has always been about more than leading the market. It has been about pioneering the market's next move. That foresight began more than 24 years ago.
On 24 April 2002, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced the creation of the Dubai Metals and Commodities Centre as a trading, refining, and storage hub, with the ambition of capturing half of the international gold business. At the time, Dubai held about 10% of the market.
Today, DMCC is home to more than 26,000 companies, including more than 1,500 in precious metals, gemstones, and diamonds, and contributes 15% of Dubai's annual foreign direct investment and 7% of its GDP. With Dubai at the centre of its gold trade, the UAE is the world's second-largest physical gold trading hub, after Switzerland.
On 8 October 2026, His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Development of the Economic and Financial Sector, chaired a meeting that reviewed six strategic directions for the Dubai Gold Strategy, covering trading, financing, storage, competitiveness, price discovery, and jewellery and retail demand. It recalls the 2002 announcement and is just as important.
To support this strategy, we bring together the region's largest non-sovereign precious metals vault, DMCC Tradeflow, @dmccfinx, and @DGCX. Together with our responsible sourcing framework, they continue to expand trade, enhance secure storage, and advance inventory financing. Almas Tower and @UptownDubai bring these businesses, services, and industry connections together within one integrated business district.
Dubai's foreign gold trade reached about AED 1 trillion in 2025, up 60% on the previous year. For DMCC, supporting the next stage of growth means connecting producers, refiners, and buyers across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, and giving our members the infrastructure, partners, and access to finance to grow with it. We remain committed to strengthening transparency, liquidity, and price discovery, so that Dubai continues to set the standard for the precious metals trade.
Join us at the 7th Dubai Diamond Conference, 25 to 27 October 2026, at Almas Tower and SO/ Uptown Dubai, and at the 14th Dubai Precious Metals Conference, 16 and 17 November 2026, at SO/ Uptown Dubai.

DMCC congratulates Paul Brink, President and Chief Executive Officer of Franco-Nevada Corporation, on his appointment as Chair of the @GOLDCOUNCIL.
Under his leadership, we look forward to building on our collaboration with the Council and advancing our shared commitment to a strong, transparent, and responsible global gold industry. We wish Paul every success as he assumes the chairmanship.
In 2019, DMCC partnered with the Diamond Development Initiative (DDI) to support artisanal diamond-mining communities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo – an important chapter in our longstanding engagement with the global diamond industry.
DMCC’s support helped children who had completed DDI’s mobile schooling programme progress into high school, while also supporting literacy and training programmes for artisanal miners. This formed part of DDI’s wider work to strengthen communities, advance responsible practices and support the formalisation of artisanal mining.
During a visit to Kinshasa and Mbuji-Mayi, a DMCC delegation led by Executive Chairman and CEO, @Ahmedbinsulayem , met artisanal miners, local communities and government representatives to see the impact of this work firsthand. The delegation was hosted by the late Dorothée Gizenga, DDI’s founding Executive Director and a leading advocate for artisanal miners and their communities. Later that year, DMCC presented her with the inaugural Dubai Diamond Award in recognition of her contribution to the global diamond industry.
Dorothée Gizenga's work left an enduring legacy, advancing the interests of artisanal miners and ensuring that their communities remained part of the global conversation around the future of diamonds for many years to come.
