My pop died yesterday. He lived a long, productive, and influential life. He was a fierce advocate for Fogo Island and for rural fisherman. He helped found the Fogo Island Co-Op and was deeply involved in community advocacy. We will miss him so much 🤍
As a child of a fishermen, it was impossible not to imagine yourself in the shoes of these families over the last few days. This story ultimately and miraculously has a happy ending, but hits far too close to home 🤍 cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundl…
Also thinking of the crew, and what they’ve endured mentally and physically over the past few days. I can’t begin to imagine the trauma of event like this, to be in a life raft at sea just.. waiting.

It’s hard to believe a year has passed already.
Being a family medicine resident is not also smooth sailing; 5 moves in 1 year, off service rotations, and a healthy dose of imposter syndrome to name a few.
It’s bulk garbage pickup season in NL and I feel like you can tell a lot about people about what they’ve got out for collection LOL
Feels like an unpopular opinion these days but I miss family med clinic 🥲 Being off service is good for a change of pace but I’m ready for a good old day of chronic disease management!!

Working as a nurse was quite literally the hardest job I have ever had. Being the sole RN in a rural health centre was no joke. I learned a lot about healthcare, nursing, and myself that summer.

To my nurse colleagues; I promise to label all pages of the carbon copy, I promise to continue to write legibly, I promise to handle 3am phone calls with kindness and respect, and I promise to remember my nursing roots throughout my medicine career.
