111 days since Sony announced their predatory plan to end physical media and start a monopoly to fulfill their greed and compensate for their terrible management and horrendous decisions this generation🚀
Here’s an updated recap of what they’ve done so far, updated with the latest info:
📦Cancelled Kojima’s PHYSINT abruptly
💰Raising console pricing
💿Trying to end physical game discs
🖥️Ended PC ports for single player
🛍️Closing PS3/Vita stores
🕹️Ending second hand market
🌕Stopped support for Destiny
🎮Destroying game ownership
🎞️Removing 500 movies w/o refund
😱8 studios shut down since 2020
⚡️Paid $4.7B to Bungie
Details:
❌Cancelled Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT, an action espionage game, mid June 2026, and the pretended the decision was amicable, while Kojima himself said it was unexpected, leading him to move it to XBOX
❌Acquired Bluepoint in 2021 and failed to let them produce a single game since the acquisition, only to shut them down in 2026
❌Acquired Haven in 2022 and hasn’t provided any meaningful updates on Fairgame$
❌Acquired Firewalk Studios in 2023 and ended up with Concord aka. the greatest disaster in gaming and shut down the studio in 2024
❌Acquired Bungie for $3.6B ($4.7B in total) in 2023, which only led to layoffs and delaying Marathon due to plagiarism and a disappointing first reveal
❌Ended support for Destiny and downscaled Bungie with tons of layoffs
❌Shutdown London Studio in 2024 am cancelled their yet to be revealed live service game
❌Shut down Neon Koi
❌Shut down Dark Outlaw as of March 2026, according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier
In addition,
🗑️The Last of Us Online
🗑️Spider-Man: The Great Web Multiplayer
🗑️Bend Studio’s live service game
🗑️Bluepoint’ God of War live service
🗑️Jim Ryan had 12 live service games planned to be out by 2026, only Helldivers II was released and succeeded, the rest were all either cancelled before release or shut down shortly after like Concord
And in the aftermath:
👉They went on to remind players that you do not own their digital games
👉Made laughable arguments in courts regarding why they don’t let you own digital games
👉Refused to pass any US tariff refunds to customers
Now they want to transfer that failure to players by:
✅Ending disc production
✅Creating a monopoly
✅Raising prices
✅Ending second hand market/trading
📀Reports from Digital Foundry’s John Linneman and others stated that there’s resentment for Sony from the industry and various studios and publishers who spoke to him.
💿Several industry legends including ex-PlayStation boss Shawn Layden criticized Sony’s decision to end physical media
📀Layden also shared important points regarding ownership stating “If you don't own it, what are you buying?”
💿US Representative Ritchie Torres from New York City announced that he will introduce the “Power To The Players Act” citing that digital video games are a rental disguises as a sale
📀Wolverine and Ghost of Yotei sold %
35% and 36.8% in physical copies, respectively, among other games that sold even more
Sony has been trying to manufacture a narrative that physical media doesn’t sell, and it’s been proven wrong over and over.
Their image went from an industry darling to the most hated entity in gaming
Sony PlayStation self-inflicted damage turned the whole gaming landscape against them, more than the Activision Blizzard King acquisition or any other competitor could’ve ever hurt them.
And it’s all thanks to the leadership under Totoki, Jim Ryan, Hermen Hulst and Nishino

This kind of just shows you that Trump has gamed the “fake news” accusations as a way to shut down any actual questions and when he finds out it’s Daily Wire his opinion completely changes lmfao

It's nice looking & it's great they won't be in MLB stadiums anymore, but it's hardly unique in any way is it? Change the seat color & it's any of five other MLS stadiums.
Is there something about modern stadium architecture I am uneducated about?

It’s time to post the stores security footage or I’m gonna need a statement from the bird itself
Art of Play, the store of the Kelly Clarkson saga, shares new statement:
“We'd like to clarify one additional detail about Kelly Clarkson's visit to our Curiosity Shop on Saturday.
During the 5 minutes she spent in the store, she inquired about our mechanical bird puppet named Molly. We explained that while Molly is permanently attached to the wall and serves as a de facto mascot for our shop, a nearly identical automaton is owned by the creator of the machines, a brilliant artist named Bliss Kolb who lives in Seattle. He told us he would be willing to part with Molly's twin for $15,000. We explained all of this to Kelly Clarkson.
We also offered to show her a different singing bird automaton, made by a traditional clockmaking shop in Germany, that she could have taken home with her that day. It costs about $2,000. She did not stick around long enough to see it.
We've reached out to Kelly directly to try and clear the air. We really do wish her the best and hope that someday we can all laugh about this misunderstanding.”

Former PlayStation CEO, Shawn Layden spoke against Sony ending physical media and shed light on the concerns about game ownership in a digital-only future🚀
“If you don't own it, what are you buying?”
He added that this decision will be “a significant brand hit” and a “reputation bite” for PlayStation.
He went on to list the benefits of collecting and showing off your collection of games, and highlighted the very real concern about ownership:
“I think this is probably the more insidious aspect to it, is that it changes the conversation [to] ‘do you own a game or do you have access to a digital asset.
If you can’t sell a thing, that means you don’t own a thing. And if you don’t own it, then what are you buying? If you’re buying access, that doesn’t quite sound as sexy, to be honest. And people, as people tend to do, in their mind they’ll game out the worst case scenario.
And that’s a whole lot of brand hit and reputation bite that – as I said, I don’t have any visibility on the financials around it – but that’s a significant brand hit, and I hope it made sense to them.”
Once again, much respect to Layden as he proves to understand gamers and their concerns, rather than purely pleasing investors.
Him and Shuhei Yoshida would make great CEOs for Sony and probably are the only ones who can steer it back to what once was an unquestionably great entity at the top of the industry🥺

Fan boys who attack anyone who’s calling for physical media and better leadership and management at Sony and PlayStation are so funny🚀
What exactly are you complaining about? If they don’t listen to us, then you will have the same Sony that you think is flawless and can do no wrong.
And if they change and improve then they will be much better since you have no standards or balls to speak out and push for anything or value.
So don’t worry, we’re not asking your precious Sony to shut down, we are asking them to go back to what made us love them to begin with.
We aren’t “Xbox fan boys” or “Nintendo fanboys” we’re gaming fans who have standards and value for the money we pay and expect quality in the service and products we’re entitled to, and better communication and policies.
That notion is quite valid in every other industry, so I don’t see why gaming should be the exception where you have to put a studio and publisher’s commercial viability, ego and greed above your own self-interest.

🚨Stay on this Gamers! Sony should hear all of us now!
Do NOT let Sony disappear into the next news cycle. This is bigger than one game, one studio, or one bad decision, " they've made a few".
The question is how much control one company should have over the entire gaming ecosystem that its customers depend on.
The hardware, platform, storefront, distribution rules, the subscriptions-
And now, the path developers and consumers have to use to reach each other. All roads and at Sony!
That does not automatically make Sony an illegal monopoly ( allegedly)
But antitrust comes to mind.🤔
Sony's behavior gives consumers a reason to keep asking them hard questions.
No company should own the Well, control the Bucket, hold the Rope- and then decide how much water you’re allowed to have.
Above all, do not let this conversation disappear.
Game On!
