‘Jack-o’-lantern’ originally referred to a man with a lantern or to a night watchman. In 17th-century Britain, people often called men whose names they didn't know by a common name like ‘Jack.’ unknown man carrying a lantern = ‘Jack with the lantern’ / ‘Jack of the lantern’ 🧵⬇️

"I mean you have a well armed rural white population that is now correctly understanding it's being targeted by a mob which claims it's guilty of all sorts of things it isn't actually guilty of... yet."
Look at the existential dread in the eye of the non. They know it’s coming.

Beautiful Display of Peak Fall Color at the Little Switzerland Tunnel. Perfect Autumn Light above the old stone makes it one of the most photogenic passages on the Blue Ridge Parkway 🍂 10.24.2026 — in Little Switzerland, NC.

When we think of beautiful colors in the garden our mind automatically defaults to flowers but there is a completely different realm we ignore. Fungi!

An oldie but a goodie. In 1968 a bunch of entitled hippy bastards sent a letter detailing their specious demands to the Warden and Fellows of Wadham College, Oxford. This was their letter of reply, which speaks to how far the academy has since fallen.

Citizenship in the US should be the hardest thing in the world to get, because its the most valuable.
U.S. citizenship approvals plunge 72% in 2026 as naturalization backlogs surge, per The Washington Post.

Reading The Pioneers last night, this passage about the earliest settlers of Marietta stood out: “Those who had more resources, lent, or gave, to those who had less.” An early frost had destroyed much of their harvest, leaving families facing starvation. Yet these people worked through their shared struggle by helping their neighbors, giving what little they had to those with even less. Before the massive welfare state created widespread dependency, Americans understood their obligations to family, neighbors, and community. We’ve slowly transferred those responsibilities, and the loyalties that came with them, to the state. We didn’t eliminate the obligation to care for one another, we replaced the bonds of family and community with dependence on government. That’s the Marxist impulse.

Spooky illustration by Maxfield Parrish for “Seein’ Things”,  by Eugene Field (1850-1895) _____ I ain’t afeard uv snakes, or toads, or bugs, or worms, or mice, An’ things ‘at girls are skeered uv I think are awful nice! I ’m pretty brave, I guess; an’ yet I hate to go to bed, For, when I ’m tucked up warm an’ snug an’ when my prayers are said, Mother tells me “Happy dreams!” and takes away the light, An’ leaves me lyin’ all alone an’ seein’ things at night! ______ 1st stanza

"Letting my parents into your country was obviously a stupid mistake" posting. xitter.cf/vasantbhatt14/status/2…
I just cast my ballot for James Talarico. As a second-generation Indian American, I am thoroughly disgusted by the xenophobia, racial resentment, and increasingly brazen attacks on my identity. My family has contributed to the American story through hard work, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief in the opportunities this nation promises. I am every bit as American as anyone else, and I will not tolerate being treated as a perpetual foreigner in the country I call home. I implore every eligible Texan to get out and vote. This election is about the kind of state and country we are prepared to defend—and the principles we refuse to surrender. @TeamTalaricoHQ @texasdemocrats
