A lovely highlight at #F22MRS was the Women in Materials Science and Engineering Breakfast with keynote talk from Ashley White @BerkeleyLab. Great to meet inspiring #womeninscience outside of my direct discipline including @AlexMKozlowski 👩🏻‍🔬

Having a fantastic time at #F22MRS! Really enjoying the diversity of symposia and the dynamic science going on globally. Very happy to present my poster on insitu metrology and targeted design of perov single crystals. Thanks @NanoDTC for funding. @TheHofmannGroup, @StranksLab

I really struggle to see now how it is possible to start a PhD in Cambridge now with no backup savings and participate in the community of scientific research. The culture of paying upfront for work travel is shocking and payment for teaching is low and slow. So sad for inclusion
Please RT. PhD students funded by @UKRI_News face a cash crisis. They are working full-time, yet earning less than living wage. With the rising cost of living and increasing pressure to deliver high quality research that benefits society, something needs to change. THREAD (1/10)

Check out Ryo Mizuta’s (former Hofmann group PhD student) fantastic sci art here - enquiries welcome directly to Ryo! 🔬
We are finally on twitter! I'll be using this account to share my #sciart and any scientific illustrations I do for clients. As this is my first post, here is an old illustration of Methylene Blue, an organic dye molecule that strongly absorbs and fluoresces light!

Loved this idea from @DrMikePJ - it has been completely stuck in my head since last September! Have a look and consider your own Cavendish index. Thanks @PV_Physicist for supporting my talk/ rant!
Was pleased to see that last week at work someone quoted this tweet thread as part of a great research group talk about equity in science. I work at the Cavendish Lab so the fact that Cavendish was the example was extra fitting.

Read this if you are in any capacity a manager/ supervisor! ⬇️⬇️⬇️ advance.cc.lehigh.edu/sites/…
Really wish academics would be more careful when writing references to avoid stereotypes. There are good resources out there to help write strong letters that don't rely on gendered tropes.

Do academics ever receive any advice on writing references? I’m struck by how many are bizarrely gendered. Why do so many refer to this metaphor of flourishing from a nervous girl to young woman🤦🏻‍♀️@PV_Physicist @ProfRachelGaN

What a pleasure giving in person supervisions is compared to teams/ miro stress sessions 👀. Here’s to staying far far away from online whiteboards 👩🏻‍🔬 @CorpusCambridge

Final paper from @EdinburghChem! Great times working in Euan Brechin’s lab, crystallising Fe30 during a rare Scottish heatwave in 2018 was an interesting challenge! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
This one is #OpenAccess!! Read this Communication by Euan Brechin, @CroninLab, Gopalan Rajaraman, Jürgen Schnack et al for free! Check it out⬇bit.ly/304Ei72
