How to lead like a human 👇🏽
1. Listen more, talk less
2. Avoid missing 1:1s
3. Find reasons to praise
4. Questions > answers
5. Delegate it all
6. Apologize when wrong.
7. Increase signal, decrease noise
8. Tough on the problem, gentle on the person
9. Lead with ❤️
My boss would give me his "2 cents" all the time.
The thing is I didn't want it.
I wanted something else.
I wanted him to stop giving advice (all the time) and start listening instead.
Your employees are similar.
A little less talking and a little more listening...
Practice saying what you're thinking.
Do it kindly but learn to do it.
It's not as bad as you think it is.
Learning to align your thoughts with your words is an act of self-care.
Life is short. Don't let (all) your thoughts die within you.
Let them breathe.
It took me 9 seconds to write this:
"I'm grateful that I get to work with you."
I did this silly exercise to prove a point..
Everyone including you has time to praise their employees.
Yet most won't.
You can.
I hope you will.
My favorite boss was a gifted listener.
His super power was to "listen loud".
Here's how he did it (and you can too)
1/3
Every time we'd discuss a difficult topic, he'd "𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆" my words back to me.
Here are 3 examples:
• "If i hear you correctly. Are you saying X?"
• "I want to repeat this. Are you asking for Z?"
• "Let me see if i got that right. Do you want to do Y?"

❌ Mistake 10: Not building psychological safety
WHY: If people are afraid of you or each other, they won't innovate. They'll keep their best thinking to themselves.
I don't like the word "servant leader"
I like what it means/stands for, but not a fan of the term.
Am I the only one?
Your employee *needs* to have 3 types of conversations with you.
📄 Project conversations.
🎯 Position conversations.
🤗 Person conversations
Most managers do two.
Good leaders do three.
🧵
🤗 PERSON conversations
This conversation is about connection.
Your job is to get to know the person behind the title. This build trust.
[Very few] managers are comfortable with person conversations.
Why should you do all 3?
