We are delighted to share a new website for our ESRC project 'Educating for Public Good', providing an overview of our work & whose involved, plus links to our previous research. We will update this regularly as the project progresses! @ehl198 @SSPSSR research.kent.ac.uk/children…
Politics isn't working. It's time to call time on the broken culture in Westminster and have a fresh start with a fair voting system. Add your name to @electoralreform's call to #MakeSeatsMatchVotes action.electoral-reform.org.…
Democracy is crumbling.
Children are watching.
And philanthropy is still playing it safe.
We don’t need more cake sales.
We need civic fire.
It’s time to shift from charity to justice — & put young people at the heart of democratic renewal.

As a parent of a neurodiverse child, this rings so true. The pressure on parents to navigate the path between an inadequate education system & your child's needs is a never-ending battle. You have to be fierce & you have to turn up every day ready to fight. It's exhausting.
“The system is broken… Our children are traumatised by school”

Fantastic afternoon with colleagues from across the sector as @PearsFoundation hosted @AliBody1’s book launch for ‘children as changemakers’. Loved the workshop considering building active civic engagement- especially hearing how the courageous advocacy strand within our SIAMS …
🎉 My new book is out today! Children as Change Makers: Unleashing Children's Real Philanthropic Power! 🙌
It explores how we can reimagine a child-centred philanthropic ecosystem, rooted in justice & collective action, to unlock children's full potential as change-makers.

My beautiful primary school. Definitely worth a visit if you're local with primary aged children.
So wonderful to be back at #VSVR24 for the 30th voluntary sector and volunteering research conference. Kicking off with fabulous talk from Clare Saunders, and the panel on organising for change. @VSRjournal @VSSN_UK

Citizens UK unites hundreds of organisations for social justice & the common good. We help schools empower students & staff to lead on issues that impact their communities.

Agree so much with this. To stare the science on climate change in the face and *not* take a side isn’t neutral; it’s deceptive. It deceives the public- who trust scientists- into complacency. I left my last job largely because of this.
Loving this by @AmyTheSchill - brilliantly positions the problems of consumption, capitalist driven philanthropy being positioned to 'off-set the ruthlessness of the market', & the potential solutions - well worth a read for anyone interested in social justice & social change.
I don't post pics of my children here often but today, well today was amazing. Today my youngest 'graduated' primary. This kid has bashed through SO many challenges, we've gone from school refusal, to soaring, and the secret... teachers who simply loved and cared whole heartedly.

Yesterday, five people were imprisoned under the draconian new Tory laws for between 4 and 5 years, for entirely peaceful protest. Longer than many offenders get for major violent crimes.
My column this week calls for Labour to repeal those laws.

Love this thread! In my upcoming book 'Children as Change Makers' I discuss the importance of an education system & civil society which engages children & young people in community organising & campaigning - this is how real change is achieved!
We couldn’t help but notice how much of yesterday’s #KingsSpeech was born out of campaigning! Let’s take a look at some of the new legislation.

Wonderful to hear @bphillipsonMP committing to the role of universities in communities and seeking to support the HE sector and stop it being a 'political battleground', as well as wider commitment to early years and schools #SecretaryofStateforEducationLiveEvent
Love seeing my PhD students publish - this article by Taylah Law @UniKent is excellent, exploring the increasing reliance of small rural primary schools on voluntary activity tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.… #RuralSchools #PrimaryEducation #VoluntaryAction
Absolutely love this, so many of my favourite things together - my former primary school and regular visitor to @LedbytheWild and @ACitizenshipT. Great choice ACT, & so well deserved @brabournecep 👏
I feature @SuperKind_org in my book 'Children as Change Makers' & am proud to be part of their advisory board - they place children's agency at the heart of leading social change & help make complex topics really accessible.... Work in a primary school - then take a look 👇👇👇

This is an exceptional opportunity for an exceptional person, with big shoes to fill - a truly wonderful organisation - and wishing @MirandaMcK all the best in her exciting new chapter!
The search is on for a truly special person to be the new @EmpathyLabUk MD! I'll still be very involved, just in a more ambassadorial role. Turned 70, about to become a granny again, time for a new emphasis. Exceptional opportunity for the right person!
