Texas is already more than 50% renewable energy, and there's a decent chance that by next year Wind overtakes Natural Gas as the single biggest source. None of this is because Texas Republicans care about climate change. It's because their regulations let wind/solar build fast.

There's an odd ethic of smol beanism among American conservatives where no matter what happens they refuse to ever acknowledge being in charge of anything or having agency in driving events and it's really bizarre and frustrating.

FWIW: Francesca Hong's loss is the best imaginable result for progressives, because this was the left-wing Doug Mastriano: a completely unelectable candidate with no ability to fundraise. And the largest cohort of voters who wanted her to win were from the other party.

I'm a fan of govt experimentation, but I don't think this is a very good idea. The problem isn't that grocery stores are greedy. The problem is that food got expensive. The Producer Price Index for all foods—avg price paid to domestic producers for food—jumped 30% between 2021 and 2023. Since then, grocery prices have continued to climb, in part due to increases in wages and housing costs. Without strong evidence that NYC bodegas and groceries stores are colluding to protect double-digit net profit margins, the reasonable assumption is that these businesses are operating with <3% margins after rent, labor, and utilities. So, a plan to sell some food with a 30% discount seems like a plan to create very long lines to buy a very small number of subsidized groceries. We'll see how that goes. But I don't think literal bread lines are the image that a socialist mayor wants to cultivate. As Keynes said in 1926, "the important thing for government is not to do things which individuals are doing already ... but to do those things which at present are not done at all." Bodegas are something we're doing already. Large grocers like Trader Joes are really really good at managing supply chains and keeping prices down, whatever you may think of their other policies. I do not trust a busy municipal govt trying to do 1,001 things to be better at groceries than grocers. But I guess we'll find out.
Mamdani: Today, I am proud to announce a collection of essential staples that will be predictably 30% cheaper at all five of our city-run grocery stores. This core set of goods will include all fresh produce, meat, and seafood, along with 20 other essential items like cheese, milk, and bread. Here's how it will work. Once a month, our five city-run grocery stores will set prices for this core set of goods at 30% below typical retail prices. No exceptions, no gimmicks. The savings will last for the entire month. That means no weekly fluctuations or sticker shock at the checkout line—not for our seniors living on fixed incomes, nor for the parents who rely on a regular supply of apple slices to keep toddler tantrums at bay.

The America that Matt Walsh grew up in also had birthright citizenship, but it was different. Better. A purer, more American birthright citizenship. Not the kind we have now, which is very different somehow
Replying to @MattWalshBlog
I at least got to live for 40 years in a country that looks and functions something like America. The fact that my children are having that opportunity stolen from them fills me with rage so deep I can’t describe it. I truly hate the people who have done this to us.

Good to see admission of failures from the prior admin within state capacity and inability to build in a cost-effective/timely manner. The lesson we are learning now is tearing it all down is not the path forward but instead an ongoing rejection of the status quo to reform deep structural issues.
Buttigieg says his time in the Biden Administration "radicalized" him. My interview with the potential candidate, who said Dems need to re-imagine how government operates -- for both substantive and political reasons "I believe very strongly that there’s no going back. It is not possible, or even desirable, to try to restore previous status quo." notus.org/2028-election/pete…

Five cancers that used to be death sentences. Pancreatic. Glioblastoma. Triple-negative breast. Renal. Melanoma. The median survival for metastatic pancreatic cancer is still 6 months. Glioblastoma, 15 months. Now personalized mRNA vaccines are producing complete remissions in some of these patients. Not responses. Remissions. BioNTech’s pancreatic cancer vaccine has 6-year follow-up data. 8 of 16 patients who mounted an immune response are still alive. For a cancer that kills 95% of patients within 5 years, that's incredible. Topol’s pyramid here maps the trajectory. From broad checkpoint inhibitors at the base to personalized neoantigen vaccines at the peak. The technology is climbing.
The ramp up of cancer immunotherapy is remarkable. Now we're seeing vaccines achieve some cures or remissions in the most refractory cancers: pancreatic, melanoma, glioblastoma, renal, triple-negative breast cancer. ✓ out the new Ground Truths (link in profile)

Totally fake statistic. Literally objectively not even close to true. 1.3 million views.
Illegal immigrants killed 13,000 Americans in 2024. The total number of homicides in the US in 2024 was 20,162. That's 64% of all murders.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The 13,000 figure reflects cumulative homicide convictions (in the US or abroad) among non-citizens on ICE's non-detained docket as of mid-2024, not murders by illegal immigrants committed in 2024. Many are incarcerated. cato.org/news-releases/… usatoday.com/story/news/fac… bbc.com/news/articles/…
