Chris Packham and Zac Polanski are right. The climate crisis may be the thing that derails @andyburnham because as far as I can see almost no one in parliament understands the climate crisis. Almost none of them understand the risk of food shortages. If that happens, the public rage is going to be off the scale. It won’t be fair. They’ll blame whoever is in power.

As evidenced by the unbridled promotion and implementation of technology at the expense of human dignity, we are truly experiencing an eclipse of the sense of what it means to be human. It is imperative to recover an understanding of the true meaning and grandeur of humanity as intended by God. It is in this sense that the challenge we currently face is not technological, but anthropological, and it is my hope that the Encyclical Letter to be published within a few days will contribute to answering this challenge.

One of the biggest systemic failures of the UK economy is that the best maths and science graduates work in finance rather than the STEM professions that actually build a productive economy.

All my life I have studied democratization and autocratization. My 1st field trip was to newly democratic Argentina. I then added autocracies to my portfolio: Cuba, Ven, etc. I think I can recognize the stages of transition to authoritarianism. Here are the boxes checked off.

🪙 We are underestimating the cost of the climate crisis. A new report from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (@actuarynews ) has found that the global economy could face a 50% loss in gross domestic product (GDP) between 2070 and 2090 as a result of the devastation caused by the climate crisis. Global leaders must make a rapid shift towards decelerating climate change for the survival of humanity and the planet.

Regardless of political persuasion, #SocialMedia is a mess, primarily because of the broken foundation laid by #Web20. A global discussion space simply cannot function without identity authenticity. In its absence, we’re left swinging between two extremes—silly censorship on one side and amplification of deplorable behavior on the other. The solution lies in identity authenticity, natively embedded within social media platforms that leverage the ingenious infrastructure of the #Internet and #Web. There’s no other viable path forward—anything else will only waste more time and create further upheaval. #YouID #NetID #WebID #PKI #Privacy

The super-rich are out of control. They've way too much say over our politics and economy. Ban them from funding political parties. And make them pay Wealth Taxes to rebuild our public services I'm on my way back down to Parliament. That's what I'll be fighting for this year.

#Supertrawlers are massive trawlers, up to 144m long, using huge nets up to 1km long to target pelagic fish. Capable of catching thousands of tonnes of fish per trip, with disgusting levels of #bycatch, these marine ecosystem destroyers must be stopped. blueplanetsociety.org/the-de…
