1/ The Reinold 2018 weighted ball study still gets cited as a talking point that weighted balls can hurt arms. True, when used inappropriately. Read the methods and it shows how not to build a velocity program. Almost none of it reflects how good programs are run.
Weighted balls added 3.3% pitch velocity in a 6-week RCT of 38 pitchers ages 13 to 18. The same group had a 24% injury rate: 4 elbow injuries, 2 during the program and 2 the following season. The control group throwing regulation balls had zero injuries. Shoulder external rotation rose 4.3 degrees in the weighted group.
Strong foundational strength levels (balanced #90mphformula metrics) and full arm and body assessment should be a precursor to high intent overload balls.
Been waiting for someone to study this for about 5 years now after @rss04001 mentioned it to me
Recently have encountered 3 surgeons who close quad tendon defect after harvesting quad free tendon for ACLR. They report quad inhibition and blame the graft
Just leave it open and you will rarely see quad inhibition. Why add a hernia repair?

I don’t have all the answers but I love baseball because of the ups and downs and constant grind. So here’s some thoughts for the “X hitting” war that is going on right now.

An unlikely healer outside the Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo has inspired, uplifted and encouraged patients in his role. One breast cancer survivor found a special way to thank him — a day at a @BuffaloBills game he won’t forget. @SteveHartmanCBS is On the Road in New York.

Forget all the garbage meta analyses posted here. They’re mostly 💩. Our recent metanalysis synthesizing the totality of evidence on whether blood flow restriction adds to Musculoskeletal rehabilitation populations relevant outcomes has been made FREE by being an editors choice at BJSM. Remember when everyone was terrified that long toss would injure pitchers, alter their mechanics and believed that you should never throw past 120 feet based on a study that showed a few percent increase in torque and a more uphill release (duh) when hucking it max distance, so they took it away from a generation of hard throwers and got confused when their velocity dropped?
Oh wait, that still happens.

Remember when everyone thought that you could just hack velo by ripping overload/underload pulldowns 3 times per week, leading to a generation of PTs to become convinced that weighted balls were solely to blame?

Cooper Kupp believes in order to perform at your best, you have to stop caring about the result
“Early on mindset in the moment was… Don’t mess up. Make sure I run the right route. Get to the right spot. I’ve got so much going through my head.”
“Jared threw such a great pass…I end up missing it…A game-winning touchdown. The results aren’t always going to tell you the truth. What’s your process like? How are you going about things?”
“People are going to hate to hear that this is my mindset… But you have to not care what happens. You have to not care what the result is.”
“Get completely past… The wins and the losses. Get completely past… What the stats are going to be.”
“I work from Monday to Saturday… To make sure I prepare… And do everything I possibly can… To be the best Cooper Kupp… That I can be on Sunday.”
“The things I eat. When I show up to work. The film I’m watching. I’m as intentional as I can possibly be.”
“It doesn’t matter. I’ve already done everything I possibly can… To be in that moment. All I can do is attack it. The results do not matter.”
“I get to play from victory… Not for victory.”
“The worst thing I can do… Is look back and be like… Why didn’t I go after it? I’m just going to send it. If it doesn’t work… It doesn’t work.”

Kids don't become better athletes by mastering bird dogs and dead bugs. They become better athletes by running, jumping, throwing, catching, balancing, reacting, climbing, and playing. To many physical therapy programs out there and not enough athletic development.
