**Breaking news** We did it!! Action from the Government to simplify access to Child Trust Fund savings. This is fantastic news for thousands of disabled young people and their families. It means £Ms of savings released across the UK for the benefit of these young people. Huge thanks to @LucyRigby @JakeBenRichards @sarahsackman. Plus to @andyburnham for empowering his team to take bold decisions. An end to a 6 year injustice. A landmark moment. A victory for common sense. Wow!

The last @UKLabour government introduced Child Trust Funds - a financial asset for every child in this country, accessible from age 18.
Nearly 3 million young people have already accessed their Funds, currently worth an average of £2,600 each.
For young people lacking the mental capacity to manage their money though, families have been required to go via the Court of Protection, in a process which many - including @sarahsmithlab - have rightly said is too complex, long & difficult to navigate.
Today, @JakeBenRichards & I are announcing that we’re changing that.
I will introduce a power into the Financial Services Bill that means the rules governing access to Child Trust Funds can be amended.
The result will be a fairer system for young people & their families, & more people being put in touch with a financial asset at an important point in their lives.
A big thank you to everyone that has campaigned to bring about this change & worked with us.

The great Paul Whitehouse is 68 years old today, which means I am obliged to post this (again!) - arguably the most majestically random but brilliant comedy sketch committed to celluloid for at least the last, what, forty, forty five years?
Yes, forty, forty five years.
Happy birthday Paul 🤘

Very unusual flight trajectory today leaving Edinburgh for Rome. After take-off the pilot flew west, allowing the best view of Glasgow and the Firth of Clyde I’ve ever seen.

Sad news to learn of the death of former Squadron Leader Robert Burke. His laser like focus on truth rather than the RAF’s institutional lies and cover-ups was vital in exonerating the pilots over the Mull of Kintyre Chinook crash . RIP.
