Navi Pillay’s record should raise far more than serious questions about the Nobel Committee’s judgment. It should disqualify her as a recipient of the peace prize.
🔴 When a car bomb struck Denmark’s embassy in Pakistan after Danish newspapers republished the Muhammad cartoons, former Danish foreign minister Per Stig Møller says Pillay’s advice was not to defend freedom of expression, but to introduce censorship.
🔴 Her response to Charlie Hebdo was no better. She called the magazine “doubly irresponsible” for publishing Muhammad cartoons, described them as “malicious and deliberately provocative,” and said she “fully understands why people wish to protest strongly.” In other words, when Islamists answer speech with threats and murder, Pillay’s instinct is to rebuke those exercising free speech rather than the extremists.
🔴 In 2022, Pillay defended fellow UN commissioner Miloon Kothari after he invoked the antisemitic trope of a “Jewish lobby” controlling social media and questioned Israel’s UN membership. Kothari later apologised. A planned event honouring Pillay at Berlin City Hall was cancelled after the mayor withdrew support.
🔴 In 2010, she declined to attend the Nobel ceremony for the imprisoned Chinese democracy campaigner Liu Xiaobo, citing a low-level scheduling conflict in Geneva, as Beijing pressured foreign officials to boycott the event.
🔴 At the antisemitic Durban II conference in 2009, Pillay remained seated while Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivered his tirade against Israel and Western delegations walked out. She condemned the speech afterwards—but later admitted that she had been “naive” about Ahmadinejad.
🔴 And a review of her first two years as UN human-rights chief found no public statements by Pillay on human rights abuses in dictatorships as Cuba, North Korea, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia, Sudan or Belarus.
This is the track record on which the Nobel Committee—and a chorus of commentators around the world—now celebrate this activist as a champion of human rights, freedom and peace. Despicable.

In awarding the Peace Prize to Navi Pillay, the Nobel Committee rewards a record of legitimizing of demonizing Jews, Israelis and championing antizionism.
As chair of the UN Commission of Inquiry, Pillay drove the unsubstantiated "genocide" charge against Israel that has become a rallying cry for antisemites worldwide. She has previously accused Jews and Israel of having "ganged up" to distort the history of the Durban conference, defended a fellow COI commissioner's "Jewish lobby" remarks, and championed the Durban process that mainstreamed anti-Zionist antisemitism inside the UN.
Learning of this award in Nuremberg and using the moment to double down on the genocide claim is a betrayal of "never again." The Nobel Committee has handed its most prestigious honor to someone who has repeatedly given cover to antisemitic narratives. That is not peace. That is normalization of hate. cnn.com/2026/10/09/world/liv…

The @UN will be choosing its next Secretary-General by the end of 2026, in what will be defining moment and an opportunity for the organization. The J7 made clear what's at stake: in making this choice for member states, combating antisemitism cannot be an afterthought. Proud of my colleague @_MarinaRos for helping lead this effort during #UNGA81 for the world's largest Jewish communities. jns.org/news/world/next-un-l…
ADL was proud to join our partner organizations in meetings with world leaders during #UNGA High-level Week to raise concerns about global antisemitism and Jewish communal safety. We also focused on the urgent need for UN reform and the importance of choosing a next UN Secretary-General who will prioritize combating antisemitism both within the UN system and around the world.
The work doesn’t end when we leave the room. We will continue to engage, advocate and hold leaders to the commitments they made.

This week, I joined hundreds outside the UN with a simple message: No More Excuses for antisemitism.
Now, as the @UN prepares to choose its next Secretary-General, the J7 Task Force is calling on member states to turn those words into action by selecting a leader who will make combating antisemitism a priority.
The UN’s next chapter is an opportunity to get this right. timesofisrael.com/liveblog_e…
This week during #UNGA, ADL is meeting with heads of state and government and foreign ministers to raise crucial issues, including the alarming rise of global antisemitism, the threat of Iranian regime-backed terror and the need for the next UN Secretary-General to make combating antisemitism a priority.
The lack of accountability for antisemitism within the UN system remains a serious failure, damaging the institution’s credibility and its ability to lead on human rights globally.

This is the most consequential decision world leaders concerned with multilateralism will make in the coming five to ten years and we’re calling on them to prioritize choosing a leader who will have the moral courage to prioritize the #UN’s founding mandate and antisemitism!
As world leaders gather in NYC for #UNGA, one of the most consequential decisions ahead is the selection of the next UN Secretary-General.
The @UN was founded on the promise of equal dignity, human rights and the protection of all peoples. Yet antisemitism within parts of the UN system remains a serious failure, damaging the institution’s credibility and its ability to lead on human rights globally.
The J7 is calling on member states to seize this opportunity to confront these failures and ensure the next Secretary-General makes combating antisemitism a priority.

As #UNGA81 High-Level Week begins, it was a pleasure to meet with France's Foreign Minister @jnbarrot to share our concerns, and the opportunity this moment presents: reforming the #UN and electing a new Secretary-General who prioritizes fighting antisemitism globally, including within the UN's own halls

Why is @kevinjonheller, a former ‘special advisor’ to the ICC Prosecutor, repeatedly misleading his followers in an effort to assist a disgraced prosecutor.
The only reason the prosecutor’s visit to Israel and Gaza did not take place is that he unilaterally cancelled it at the last minute, as the U.S. Secretary of State stated in real time, in a way that was inexplicable at the time.
Far from being “repeatedly debunked”, as time has passed more and more information has emerged showing that it was the prosecutor himself who linked the sexual‑harassment complaint to the warrants, including statements he made to the complainant and leaks to the media by people in the prosecutor’s office who were working on the Palestine file.
What has actually been repeatedly debunked is the prosecutor’s nefarious accusation that the complainant was working in the service of Israel—baseless claims that only prove, for anyone willing to listen, that Karim Khan used the warrants to divert attention from the complaints against him.
We urged @UNESCO member states to uphold the full, documented Jewish history of Jerusalem, Hebron and Sebastia/Shomron. This week in Busan, every resolution failed to do so and our coalition's appeal was ignored.
But no number of politicized resolutions can erase a fact: the Jewish people's connection to this land spans thousands of years and no vote will change that. Calling it something else is not heritage protection. It's antisemitism. timesofisrael.com/liveblog_e…

As AI transforms how people access information, it also risks amplifying hate and misinformation targeting religious and ethnic minorities.
Yesterday, together with @UNOSAPG and @ngoforbny, ADL hosted a side event at the @UN to share research on how leading AI systems can generate harmful content and on safeguards to address these risks. ADL's @alexrosemberg and @danieljkelley were joined by @FDD's Leah Siskind, Special Adviser Chaloka Beyani, AI2030's @BenChristensen and our partners @Ch_JesusChrist.
Ahead of next week's UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, discussions like these are critical to ensuring the protection of religious and ethnic minorities is reflected in global AI policy.
