NEW YORK/// Matinee Exhibition closes tomorrow August 21st at Lehmann Maupin.
Take a peek into Alex's process and world.
take a look behind the scenes of my @Disney short film - to reflect the girl's imaginations i conjured all the magic i could from classic handcrafted hollywood techniques
My latest project for @Disney !
i still get the same physical reaction as when i was young watching Disney films - it’s the perfect meeting place between real life and dreams. I wanted to highlight that Disney stories give kids a shared language through which they can imagine together and the innocence of childhood friendship. I used practical in-camera effects to make everything feel more visceral because the sense of gravity and tactile nature reflect how we perceive emotion as something very physical. Every effect we created was physically rigged, from floating carpets to drifting cotton clouds, miniature castles and matte paintings. For the underwater sequence, we used a “dry-for-wet” technique, and the puppets were all built of wood and felt and puppeteered in-camera.
Thank you to my extremely talented cast Ivy Jukes & Thea!

finally some @GQMagazine behind the scenes production stills. no AI was used, just good old fashion movie magic - a brilliant team of craftsmen constructed this set. taking cues from the history of Hollywood movie making, i used in-camera techniques same as they would have 100 years ago, 50 years ago, or even in Christopher Nolan’s new film The Odyssey. as you can imagine the cast were each as charming as ever to work with
TOM HOLLAND, ROBERT PATTINSON & MATT DAMON @GQMagazine portraits for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey
Matinee opens at Lehmann Maupin's New York gallery this Thursday, June 11, from 6–8 PM.
'In Ceremony (pictured here), Alex Prager celebrates Hollywood’s tradition of theatricality. Her distinct characters and meticulously planned use of color create a contemporary, Renaissance-style tableau with multiple viewpoints.
At a moment when established systems are visibly shifting, the scattered attention of the audience carries a new weight and fragility, mirroring our own efforts to find a path forward.'

ROBERT PATTINSON, TOM HOLLAND, MATT DAMON for @GQMagazine on Odyssey and Nolan, story by Zach Baron
i'm as excited as everyone else to see christopher nolan's the odyssey so imagine how terribly chuffed i was to work so closely with matt damon, tom holland, and robert pattinson to create our own surrealist play in photographs. to get the call from GQ to represent one of the greatest film director's masterpieces with the great living actors of our age - i transcended joy and now live in a space of permanent serenity. thank you to @GQMagazine and all the incredibly talented craftsmen and producers who helped bring this to life

“If you love movies, if you love Hollywood, the history of Hollywood, the history of movies, the thing that you understand in your bones is that what the audience wants is something new. They want something they don’t know they want.” —Christopher Nolan

Alex's next solo exhibition opens at Lehmann Maupin's New York gallery on June 11.
‘Matinee’ debuts four large-scale photographs that continue the artist’s exploration of Los Angeles as both subject and muse.
Following a landmark year marked by the premiere of her feature film @DreamquilMovie, this exhibition serves as a prelude to @AlexPrager’s major 2027 New York solo presentation, which will coincide with a forthcoming institutional exhibition.
