Mike McFarland brought so much to all of us who knew him, and to all of the anime fans who knew his work. He was an incredible talent, a good friend to so many of us, and will be sorely, sorely missed. ❤️
Such a brilliant, talented soul. Rest in Peace.
We say goodbye to another legend today 🕊️
Mike McFarland, the veteran voice actor, ADR director, scriptwriter and producer, has passed away at 56. For generations of anime fans, he was especially known as the original Funimation English voice of Master Roshi in Dragon Ball, alongside major roles in Attack on Titan, One Piece, Tokyo Ghoul and Fullmetal Alchemist.
Some of his most memorable characters included:
• Master Roshi — Dragon Ball
• Jean Kirstein — Attack on Titan
• Buggy the Clown — One Piece
• Koutarou Amon — Tokyo Ghoul
• Jean Havoc — Fullmetal Alchemist / Brotherhood
• Gordon Agrippa — Black Clover
• Mashirao Ojiro — My Hero Academia
• Carnage Kabuto — One-Punch Man
• Teppei Sugo — Psycho-Pass
• Yajirobe — Dragon Ball
• Ectoplasm — My Hero Academia
• Ryoji “Ranka” Fujioka — Ouran High School Host Club
• Cain Nightroad — Trinity Blood
His influence also extended far beyond the microphone. McFarland directed English dubs for major productions including Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist, Dragon Ball, the Rebuild of Evangelion films, Summer Wars and Wolf Children, helping shape how an entire generation experienced anime in English.
Rest in peace, Mike McFarland. From Master Roshi and Buggy to Jean Kirstein, his voice and work behind the scenes became part of countless anime memories. 🕊️

I’ll tell you right now, I have been so impressed by FF Resonance that if Square Enix made a sequel available to pre-order right now, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick it up. It is a perfect tribute to nostalgic FF.

Nobody wants a city on Mars. Nobody wants AI in every app. Nobody wants data centers in space. Nobody wants humanoid robots or flying cars.
We want clean water. We want a stable climate. We want a habitable planet. We want wildlife to survive. We want to live.
Excited to get to come in to provide additional voices for episode 2 of Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War - The Stairway to Adulthood, streaming on @crunchyroll ! Thanks to @VAJerryJewell for the direction!
