Imagine designing a policy so outrageous, so stupid, so destructive to our ancient liberties, history & constitution that you manage to unite an increasingly fractious & divided country in almost unanimous opposition against you. That is what this Labour government has achieved with their awful proposal to largely abolish jury trial, using the incredibly weak justification of the trial backlog created by deliberate government under funding of the criminal justice system. Whether you’re left wing, centrist or right wing; Green, Lib Dem or Reform: let us all come together to fight these proposals with everything we have & to say to this government that if they want to steal our cherished right to jury trial from us, they will have an almighty battle on their hands.
