The Tories have spent a decade making it financially and bureaucratically exceedingly difficult for British people to live with their spouses in the UK.
A 2.5 year spousal visa would cost me min. £1500 + £1500 upfront for NHS surcharges. Equivalent visa for me in Singapore=£30.
I'm not suggesting that the Singaporean system is perfect.
But the difference is that Singapore actually gives a shit about keeping families together and doesn't use spousal immigration as a money-making venture. That alone makes the system way less dehumanising.
