Story time... this is by far the craziest thing to ever happen at one of my keynotes in my life.

"Even under the best circumstances, the transition to this new AI era will be one of the most turbulent times in human history," Bill Gates writes in a new, 12-page essay. on.wsj.com/4gTfp2M
This is a top headline in every major newspaper today. For anyone interested in AI, public policy, or ensuring you and your family have a good quality of life over the next five years -- I recommend you read this brand new article from @BillGates . It outlines the state of the world in a sharp, clear way. And it introduces new ideas -- like "Human Reserved" jobs and AI + robot taxes -- that are brilliant.

Meta's $16.7B settlement is the largest accountability moment in social media history for child safety, and the 47 AGs who drove it deserve tremendous credit. Restricted notifications and time limits are good, and it is historic that the AGs have gotten design changes.
But the settlement leaves untouched many of the features that harm kids. For example, the algorithm. Meta's AI-powered recommendation engine is still running, engineered to maximize young people’s engagement even with content that harms them.
It was established in the previous court case (and in Meta’s own research) that Meta's design harms children. The work ahead is to make them change that design — not just how long kids can access Instagram's harmful design, and not just on an opt-in basis. This is a great step. Let's all work together to make sure it's not the last.
I love the message @DrLipov is putting out: Our biology and psychology are connected. And our use of digital devices has real biological implications.
He's hosting a free, live program this Sunday, August 2, that looks incredible. Check it out here: digitaltoxicityawareness.com
The reassuring part: biology isn't fixed.
Better sleep, regular exercise, time outdoors, real face-to-face connection, cutting back on digital
overstimulation, and treating hormone deficiencies when appropriate can all move these pathways in the right direction.
The goal isn't just less screen time, it's a healthier brain.
Small changes compound because they're hitting the same interconnected system.

Incredible time at @Summit at Sea this weekend, doing a fireside chat with Jeff Orlowski-Yang, director of Netflix’s “The Social Dilemma.” Jeff and I have been working on a secret project together the past few years… very very very excited to share the news with you all later this year :)

Phone free schools cause

One year into cell phone bans, Dallas schools see 24% increase in library book checkouts.
👏👏👏
"Public school districts in Texas are almost one school year into the first statewide cellphone ban, and a North Texas school district is seeing positive impacts.
Dallas ISD officials said that, district-wide, they have seen a significant increase in library book checkouts, which they largely attribute to students no longer having cellphones with them during the school day.
"I started hearing, 'Oh, I'm so bored. I can't get on my phone after I do my work or during lunchtime,'" Hillcrest High School librarian Nina Canales said. "Once they lock into these stories, they don't seem to care about their phones at all."
From the first day of school to March 31, 2026, the district reported an increase of more than 200,000 additional books checked out compared to the previous year.
A look at the library checkouts for the previous year:
2025-2026 Total Circulation (1st day of school to March 31, 2026) – 1,084,837
2024-2025 Total circulation (1st day of school to March 31, 2025) – 872,430
Total library book checkout increase: 24.35%
At Dallas ISD's Hillcrest High, students are following this trend.
Canales said there were roughly 500 books checked out in the first nine weeks of the 2024-2025 school year. This school year, that number spiked to about 1,800 books.
"That floored me," Canales said. "I had to re-do the report again because I was like, 'What, are you kidding me?'"
Students felt the impact too.
"Now that I'm busy with a bunch of work and college, I don't find myself missing my phone that much, even at home," said Yamilet Jimenez, 9th grader."

This is brilliant. Jeff Bezos’s top advice on how to strategize for business success 10 years from now… This applies to business, personal relationships, and so much more if you think about it.

It’s so straightforward it might sound silly. But it works. Who wants to reach their goal so bad that they are ready to give this a try?
