I thank His Majesty King Charles III for the audience. It is important for me to have the opportunity to personally thank him for his unwavering support for Ukraine. We appreciate all the assistance provided by the United Kingdom.

Big moment. Zelensky doing the only thing he can under the circumstances: appealing over the head of Trump to the American people, most of whom must surely be disgusted to find themselves on the side of Putin

Zelensky: It's a pity that we are losing a strong partner.
Morgan: You think you're losing America?
Zelensky: Yeah, but not because of us. We can’t be weak. Otherwise, we can’t survive… This is why it’s painful when Trump chooses to be on Russia’s side. This is not the right side of history.

This is devastatingly bad news. Chris was the greatest Medievalist of his generation (which was an especially talented one); a man of stalwart principles; and a person of enormous generosity.

A treat to talk about my Cold War thriller #TheFifteenthMan at the @OldieMagazine Literary Lunch sponsored by @noblecaledonia #TheOldie @Hatchards @ViperBooks 🇬🇧🇩🇪
An extraordinary family secret.
William Cook spoke at The Oldie Literary Lunch about his debut novel, The Fifteenth Man — inspired by the remarkable story of his grandfather, Werner von Biel.
William grew up believing his grandfather was a wastrel. But after the fall of the Berlin Wall, he travelled to Berlin and discovered the truth: during the Second World War, Werner had saved a Jewish friend, Manfred Alexander, from the Holocaust — hiding him, feeding and clothing him before helping him escape to Switzerland.
