Critical PHP vulnerabilities to be disclosed tomorrow: php.net/archive/2026.php. We're working directly with the PHP Foundation to get patched PHP versions into our base images for Laravel Cloud, Forge, and Vapor ASAP. You may need to redeploy your apps at that time to use these patched versions, but we're also working on the ability to silently patch applications without needing a redeployment. All customers have been emailed and we will be providing further updates via email as the situation evolves.

Definitely interesting as OpenAI continues to build its own search index (and core search and anti-spam systems) -> ChatGPT Search Can Draw On More Pages After A Cloudflare Pilot "Cloudflare’s network signals are used by OpenAI to help its search crawler find web pages with value. The blog post gives several examples of these pages, such as the user guide of a particular washing machine, the most recent information regarding passport requirements and fees and a restaurant’s menu and hours. It states that these pages “can be valuable even if few other sites link to them.” "The July 8 announcement stated some of the new signals that will be utilized, including how recently a page has been updated, the quality of traffic to a website and what updates have actually been made to a page. Additionally, the announcement states that this information comes from participating websites. However, neither announcement explains who participated, nor whether the new pages are on their sites." searchenginejournal.com/chat…

It's interesting since the August spam update only took two days to roll out, but it was POWERFUL and impacted a lot of sites. I'm eager to see how this spam update looks since it's going to take longer. Again, stay tuned. And for those gaming AI search visibility, this should be a giant heads-up...
Google's @JohnMu confirmed this September Spam update will take longer than the previous spam updates and take two weeks or so to roll out - added to story at seroundtable.com/google-sept…

Sorry, one more comment about this, since I fear site owners might jump to disavowing when they shouldn't. The site owner on Reddit explained they have unnatural links, old guest posts purchased via fiverr... This is probably why John explained the disavow tool has its place... Again, if you never set up unnatural links, DO NOT start disavowing.
If you have a manual action for unnatural links, or if you knowingly set up unnatural links, then go for it. But if you never set up unnatural links, never bought links, never participated in some link scheme, etc., THEN STEP AWAY FROM THE DISAVOW TOOL. BTW, I've helped a number of clients nuke their (large) disavow files that never should have been disavowing in the first place. I also wrote a case study about one of those: gsqi.com/marketing-blog/goog…

Google has confirmed this btw. The cat and mouse game continues: “We have a long history of deploying technical measures against evolving forms of abuse, and we regularly take steps to protect our services and users.”
I still think the tracking tools can pull the urls, so not sure this will mess that up. The urls are still in the code. Will be interesting to see how this goes -> Google starts rolling out the google.com/goto URL as a passthrough URL to help prevent scraping of its search results by third-party tools and AI companies seroundtable.com/google-sear…

If you're a news or media publisher, heads-up. You can get the new 'Preferred sources' button code now from Google: "Now when a user clicks on the Preferred Source button, it adds the site as a Preferred Source on Google and immediately directs them back to where they left off on the publisher’s page." "Google also said that so far “people have already selected more than 600,000 unique sources.” So it seems like users are using this feature. In May 2026, Google said that number was 200,000, that is a 200% increase."

Had a meeting (read: screener interview) last wk w/ @multidots and was asked about #jquery (not vanilla #JS) but no questions about #AI. Huh?? ! So I guess this is #WordPress in 2026? Good to know. 🤪😜😝🤣

Is another web index on its way? Possibly... and this time it's from Meta. ChatGPT grounding is already getting sketchy... and Claude is heavily using Brave. Now Meta's AI will possibly ground via its own web index. This will be interesting to follow... h/t @rustybrick
Meta staff DM'd me secretly Posted with permission Meta is ALLEGEDLY building their own Google search engine, so that if their AI does a web search it doesn't end up at Google, as Google could then use it for THEIR training, so they want their own web index that they will then use as their own Meta search engine for their AI Interesting 🤔

I'm surprised more people aren't talking about the newish ways ChatGPT is structuring its fan-out queries to limit its searches down to a handful of trusted results. From the research I'm doing, I see a few trends: ⭐ the better models tend to do more searches and include more 'site:' queries in their search - 10+ searches for ChatGPT5.4 thinking, vs. 2-3 fan-outs for ChatGPT 5.3 Instant ⭐ the models appear to be doing various types of site: searches, depending on the query. For example: ⭐ ⭐ Reddit is used heavily (including querying specific subreddits) to get users' opinions about things, like reviewing products ⭐ ⭐ ChatGPT is heavily referencing authoritative sites, especially .gov sites, for many YMYL-oriented queries, such as "site:http: //cpsc.gov [product] recall". I checked ~20 prompts today in the legal space and all 20 of them only returned citations from .gov domains! ⭐ ⭐ for product specs and pricing, the models are leaning heavily into brand-specific searches, like site:http://sephora. com or site:http:// costco. com ⭐ ⭐ if you ask a question related to a product/service, ChatGPT will often do site: searches from the most well-established, trusted brands in the space, even if you didn't mention their name in the query At the same time, others like Mark Traphagen have spotted how ChatGPT is included more in-line links to well-known brands as part of the response. The impact of all this? More ChatGPT traffic for Reddit and trusted brands. Fewer citations for everyone else. I think OpenAI swung hard in the opposite direction from "citing any random site that writes a listicle about itself." Are others seeing similar patterns in their own data?

The answer is… wait for it… They rank well in search engines, have a Wikipedia page, and get talked about on Reddit.” 🤯🤯🤯
