Just keeping an ear on the budget amendments this afternoon.
Rep. Eastman just moved an amendment that would create a budget line that says "University of Alaska for Illegal Restrictions on Firearms" and set it to $0.
It gets tabled on a 38-2 vote.

Hey, the House just added something to today's calendar.
HB193, Internet for Schools, is the House version of the original Senate Bill 140, which is/was a time-critical bill to upgrade the internet speeds of remote schools.

The House is already underway with the amendment process on HB17, which is Rep. Carrick's bill guaranteeing contraceptive coverage.
Rep. Eastman has a bunch of right-wing anti-abortion amendments that would undermine the bill.

There’s really no logic behind the House Republicans’ insistence that they HAD to kill SB140 because they didn’t want to give schools hope when the governor is just gonna veto the funding.
It would have taken just six of them to ensure funding for SB140 stands.

In House special orders, Rep. Carrick gave a speech asking the Majority to walk the talk and hear minority legislation.
Majority Reps responded by bashing her, with Rep. Allard going so far as to say Carrick's e-bike bill got vetoed because she called out Dunleavy.

The thing that really sticks out to me in this news conference is not just the threat of killing the bill but the admission that he may still cut K12 funding even if he gets everything he wants.
"Are we going to be able to fund everything we want? I don't think so."
