Not gonna lie, this is how I'm gonna start explaining myself to people who constantly ask for money at places. I understand that people are struggling but we all are and dude makes a very very valid point. I went to the store the other day, 3 bags of nothing was 90 bucks.

Root & Rise is a small, family-run honor-system farmstand owned by Amber and Brett. They bake slow-rise sourdough loaves, brownies, pies, cinnamon rolls, bagels, and other from-scratch treats. Yesterday this man loaded up and walked off with a huge armful of their work.

You can't ban it. So you get people to hand it over themselves.
Step 1. Make it visible. Put a form on it. On 9 October France's finance committee voted for a declaration on every self custody wallet over €100,000. Coins held by a custodian are exempt.
Step 2. Make it a hassle. Make exchanges check the wallet is yours before you withdraw. The EU has done that above €1,000 since 2024.
Step 3. Go after the toolmakers. Samourai Wallet's developer got five years for a wallet that never held his users' coins.
Step 4. Make it frightening. July: a Coldcard firmware bug from 2021 lets attackers drain about $116 million from 5,200 addresses. October: $93 million from Ledgers sold through one reseller.
Step 5. Let the lists leak. Coinbase staff bribed for 69,461 customers' names and addresses. France's tax office broken into in June.
Step 6. Make it dangerous. 52 wrench attacks in six months. Home invasions up from 1 to 20.
Step 7. Offer the safe option. BlackRock cut the minimum to swap your Bitcoin into its ETF from $25 million to $1 million. Over $5 billion already converted. Its head of digital assets says why: "kidnappings, ransom, custody failures." Their coins sit at Coinbase.
Then call all of it protection.
Now read the list again. Every step is already under way.
Maybe nobody planned it. Maybe it's just every incentive pointing the same way. Does it matter, if you end up in the same place?

In Tennessee, sleeping in your own car can land you in prison for six years.
Not a fine. Not a warning. A felony.
Cities across the US keep passing ordinances that ban sleeping in vehicles, and the people getting caught are the ones with nowhere else to go. You lose the apartment, you keep the car, and the car becomes the last thing standing between you and the sidewalk. Then the law shows up and makes that a crime too.
The logic folds in on itself. Punish someone for being homeless by handing them a record that makes housing and work even harder to get.
