Though no one can be in any doubt the Burnham government signifies the “death knell of the Thatcher settlement”, the imminent challenges facing his premiership mean “for now, that’s irrelevant”, says Andrew Neil.
“[There is a] rendezvous with reality awaiting Mr. Burnham.”

Turned off replies because she knows how stupid an idea this is.

A landmark Finnish study has found a sharp rise in psychiatric illness among adolescents following sex-alteration procedures.
The peer-reviewed study, published in Acta Paediatrica, tracked every young person under 23 who contacted Finland's gender clinics between 1996 and 2019.
A total 2,083 individuals were studied, with 16,643 matched controls. They were followed for up to 25 years.
Finland's health registers are mandatory, which means no one opts out — this is the complete national picture.
The numbers: psychiatric morbidity rose from 9.8% to 60.7% in adolescents who underwent feminising reassignment, and from 21.6% to 54.5% in masculinising reassignment.
Even after adjusting for prior psychiatric history, gender-referred adolescents faced five times the risk of male population controls, and three times the risk of female controls.
"Psychiatric needs do not subside after medical gender reassignment," the authors concluded.
Referrals after 2010 arrived sicker. 47.9% had already needed psychiatric treatment before their first clinic visit, against 15.3% among controls.
The authors' read: for some adolescents, gender distress may be secondary to other mental health challenges.
The evidence keeps mounting. The silencing continues anyway.
How many more adolescents will be told this is "care"?

It was never a ‘stretch target.’ The manifesto promise came with no caveats. It only became a ‘stretch’ when it was clear they’d never hit it — not by a long chalk. Would be more honest just to admit that. But that’s not how politicians work. They think we can’t see their dissembling.
So let me do their work for them: there is no chance — no chance — Labour will build 1.5m new homes in England between 2024 and 2029. End of.
“It was always a stretch target”
Housing Secretary Angela Rayner admits there’s only a “slim chance” the government meets its target to build 1.5 million homes in this parliament but says “I’m definitely not giving it up”

Labour's 2024 manifesto committed to building "1.5 million new homes over the next parliament" as a central pledge. Pre-election announcements, including from Keir Starmer, framed it as deliverable ("how, not if") through planning reforms rather than a stretch goal.

In just a few months, Labour has delivered major wins for its union donors: easier strike action and inflation busting, unconditional pay rises for rail workers.
Now, after trying to postpone elections it feared losing, Labour wants to rewrite donation rules retrospectively to hobble its opponents
Labour takes the money, changes the rules for its own donors (it has plenty of form on it) then with a straight face, bleats about democracy being bought.
"We need to make sure our democracy can't be bought."

Revolut didn’t get “hacked.”
It handed customers’ IDs, addresses, account numbers, transaction histories, selfies and more to an unauthorized third party after receiving a fake government request.
That’s the real KYC problem: once companies are forced to collect your most sensitive data, you’re trusting them to protect it for years.
More ID checks = more leaks.
Yet, governments are constantly pushing for more ID checks to access basic aspects of daily life, like social media...

Reform crypto donations: bad ❌
Labour Cayman Islands hedge fund donations: good ✅
We all know what’s going on here. Goodall just put it on display for everyone to see.

Great work BA and Heathrow 😡 Nine hours and counting sitting on a plane which has travelled nowhere. At a remote parking bay, no food throughout, and mother/baby and a person with a medical condition desperate to get off. As is everyone else. Toilets no longer available as blocked. No sign of steps or buses. And that’s before the wait for luggage. Pathetic and dangerous lack of corporate contingency and responsibility.
