Can we talk about the fact that companies are not transparent and don't want to ask for people's consent before they use their personal data to train AI, then regulators (especially in Europe) intervene, and then these companies' CEOs write open letters to complain that "regulation is too uncertain"?

"Meta says the European regulatory environment is too 'unpredictable'" Translation: Meta prefers Zuckerberg's "move fast and break things" mode. The EU has been regulating tech (GDPR, DMA, DSA, AI Act, etc.), so Meta and other big tech companies are trying to use economic and political pressure to change that and, at the same time, influence public opinion against tech regulation.

Oh hey, look--a tech industry lobbying group opposing a bill drafted primarily by a tech company after it was amended to close loopholes and provide basic (like, *really* basic) transparency. It's almost as if they don't want any accountability🤔
We're urging @GovofCO Polis to veto Colorado's latest AI bill. SB 205 wraps up CO small businesses in red tape, discouraging them from trying new approaches to AI. It also requires disclosure of essential business intel to competitors. Our veto letter: progresschamber.org/wp-conte…

That's "extensive disclosure?" Really? That's too much to ask of companies that use AI systems to make decisions that can alter the course of consumers' lives and workers' careers?

Law and AI just passed the 200-subscriber mark. Not exactly The Washington Post, but not too shabby for a site that @Wilbert_LawFirm and I work on in our spare time with no marketing budget. Sign up if you haven't already! lawandai.com/
