2/ DEI chairs efforts work hand-in-hand with common sense; people not making space for people with wheelchairs, even when being asked so, is a cultural reflection. Common sense cannot and more importantly should not be imposed

1/ I 've been trying to make #AI conferences accessible since 2018 when I first attended @NeurIPSConf, and realised that they weren't accessible by any means. Albeit being a DIE co-chair of @icmlconf I can say that I feel ashamed by the participants' behavior for yet another time

The French Ministry of Culture has appointed me a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. I am only the second Deafblind person, after Helen Keller, to receive this distinction. If only Helen were here to guide me. She could read and write French; I’m still working on that. 1/3
Haben enthusiastically holds up a certificate that says, “La Ministre de la Culture nomme par arrêté de ce jour. Madame Haben Girma: Chevalière de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.” It is signed by Rachida Dati, Ministre de la Culture, and the signature has a tactile seal over it. Haben is wearing a long-sleeved black top with gold buttons along one side. Behind her is a wall of hanging fuchsias.
