I’m devastated. I had dinner with him, Irmgard, and Niels Thur. night. He was happy and in prime form. Jim was a friend/collaborator who had the rare gift of both maximum intellect and maximum empathy. A life embodying “Excelsior!” My heart goes out to his family and students😪
