Unbelievably, people with insecure immigration status are *still* expected to attend in-person reporting, despite far-right attacks. Along with so many others, we're calling for in-person reporting to be suspended: afterexploitation.com/2024/0… Action by @migrantsorg @Right_to_Remain

Awareness is low. As part of our 'can of worms' report earlier this year, we asked experts with lived experience of exploitation what they thought were key issues. Compensation regularly came up top, with most saying they had never been told about the CICA scheme

A big issue is legal advice. @ATLEUnit's Jamila Duncan-Bosu says witness statements, records and medico-legal reports are often needed to get a good outcome. Yet, CICA is not covered by legal aid. Our data shows at least 1 in 3 (43 in total) go through the process without a rep

Worryingly, CICA says it does not track UK victims or those with settled status. However, even if we compare compensation to *only* slavery referrals for non-UK nationals in the same period, only 0.3% apply

More than 50,000 modern slavery referrals were made since 2021, yet only a fraction of that total have applied for compensation. A mere 133 victims. Under international law, survivors of modern slavery should be able to access compensation schemes for victims of crime.

🚨In @BigIssue today: Modern Slavery survivors rarely get help, yet government misinformation has set the movement back by years. To make matters worse, we have little data on what the government *does* to prevent this crime or support survivors: bigissue.com/opinion/modern-…
