🎀 Pink October is here!
Rwanda NCD Alliance is pleased to join the global community in educating about breast cancer, raising awareness, and standing with everyone affected.
“Every story is unique, every journey matters.”
Behind every diagnosis is a person with hopes, a family, and a story that deserves to be heard. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let’s make space for those stories and encourage conversations rooted in compassion and reliable information.
Together, we can challenge stigma, encourage timely care, and remind people affected by breast cancer that they deserve support at every stage. 💗
Join us this October: share awareness messages, start a conversation, and check in on someone affected by breast cancer.

❤️ DON’T MISS A BEAT!
Today, 29 September, we mark World Heart Day 2026.
Rwanda NCD Alliance and Rwanda Heart Organization unite to encourage everyone to know their risk, recognize the warning signs, and take action for a healthier heart.
🌍 Cardiovascular diseases are the world’s leading cause of death, claiming an estimated 19.8 million lives in 2022, according to WHO. Yet many heart attacks and strokes can be prevented.
Protect your heart through everyday actions:
1️⃣ 🍎 Eat more fruits and vegetables, and reduce salt.
2️⃣ 🏃🏽♀️ Move more—walk, cycle, dance, and make physical activity part of your routine.
3️⃣ 🚭 Quit tobacco and avoid second-hand smoke.
4️⃣ 🥃 Reduce or avoid alcohol.
5️⃣ 🩺 Know your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels. Follow your prescribed treatment.

📢This Global Week for Action on NCDs is calling on world leaders to turn promises into sustainable financing on #NCDs. The time to #LeadOnNCDs is now!
📄 We recently released a report developed by a team of researchers at University of Washington, exposing the glaring gap in NCD investment.
💰 The report makes clear that to close the funding gap and deliver health for all, countries must commit 1.1–1.7% of gross national income to 13 essential primary health care interventions. The reality, though, is that most are still far from reaching this target.

What if East African countries used their collective strength to make essential NCD medicines more accessible?
The EAC Regional NCD Framework targets 10 NCD commodities for regional pooled procurement by 2030.
This is what regional cooperation can look like: countries working together to address shared challenges in access, affordability, and supply.
Now we need to turn this commitment into medicines that actually reach the people who need them.

Accountability means keeping score. Commitments only matter if they’re tracked, reported and acted on. Turning declarations into delivery.

🌍️ East Africa already has a roadmap.
The EAC Regional Strategic Framework for Prevention and Control of NCDs 2024–2030 sets a clear regional ambition: reduce premature NCD mortality by 20% by 2030.
A target is important. But targets only matter when they translate into policies, resources, services and measurable results.
So this Global Week, let's ask a simple question: Are we delivering on the commitments we've already made?
From commitments to delivery.

🎉 The ANN is now accredited for the @WHOAFRO Regional Committee meeting.
After 5 years of advocacy, this is a big win for bringing the voices of people living with NCDs into African health policy.
Thank you to @NCDAlliance for the support that made this possible. #ActonNCDs
The GW4A for Action on NCDs is here and the ANN is joining the global voices.
In Africa, we still have too many people travel several hours to access diabetes care. We are calling for NCD services to be integrated into primary health care.

🌍 Global Week for Action on NCDs 2026 is here! 🌍
From today, 31 August – 4 September, advocates, communities, and organizations worldwide unite under the theme: Time to Lead. (#LeadOnNCDs)
Prof. Joseph Mucumbitsi, Chairperson of Rwanda NCD Alliance and Board Member of @ncdalliance, reminds us: “It’s time to lead by bridging the global commitments of the 2025 political declaration with national actions to reduce the NCD burden by 2030.”
This year, Leadership is in Focus — governments must turn promises into measurable progress, while communities and people with lived experience continue to drive accountability and action.
NCDs remain the #1 cause of death and disability globally. Without urgent action, deaths could rise to 52 million annually by 2030. The time to act is now.
Stay tuned for more updates on different planned activities and join the movement to #LeadOnNCDs and #ActOnNCDs, and put #LeadershipInFocus during #GW4A2026.
