It's worth reading Macklemore's full letter regarding how Robert Kraft, owner of Gillette Stadium, pressured Ed Sheeran to cancel Macklemore, and how Sheeran caved to this pressure, despite 1) his decade-long friendship with Macklemore, and 2) how Sheeran had no problem eschewing "neutrality" when it came to Ukraine. What this shows is exactly what @EliClifton and Ian Lustick write about in their new book "Israel's Lobby: America in the Grip of a Foreign Power." It's no longer just about how Israel or pro-Israeli elements push US foreign policy in a direction that undermines US national security (such as starting a disastrous war with Iran). It's now also about how these elements constitute a direct threat to the freedom of speech of ordinary Americans, and as a result, a threat to American democracy.

According to an informed federal official, in the coming months the Trump administration plans to send a total of 40,000 Mark 84 and Blu-117 bombs to the government of Israel. Each bomb weighs 2,000 pounds. This appears to be the largest transfer of conventional explosive ordnance from the United States in modern history. How big is this shipment? It amounts to 40,000 tons of bombs. For perspective, the largest American air raid of World War Two was the Eighth Air Force’s attack on Berlin in March of 1945. Combined, the 2,023 Allied aircraft involved dropped about 3,000 tons of bombs. That’s 7.5 percent of what Trump is sending to Israel. That same month, March of 1945, the US Army Air Forces began the single most destructive bombing raid in human history, Operation Meetinghouse over Tokyo. More than 100,000 Japanese civilians were killed. By the end of that operation, the US had dropped 1,600 tons of bombs. That’s four percent of what Trump is sending to Israel. World War Two ended five months later, when the US dropped an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima. The shipment Trump is sending to Israel amounts to more than three times the destructive power of that nuclear explosion. There is no precedent for what the Trump administration is doing. Nor is there a justification. The government of Israel is not fighting World War Two, or even a war. It is engaged in periodic skirmishes with a guerrilla force in Lebanon, and it is working to exterminate an unarmed civilian population in Gaza. Neither front requires modern 2,000-pound bombs. An American-made Mark 84 has a destruction radius of half a mile. It releases a thermal wave the temperature of the surface of the sun. Within 100 feet of the explosion, rock melts and human flesh turns to vapor. The bomb collapses apartment buildings and leaves craters thirty-five feet deep. Until the war with Iran, the US military generally avoided using the Mark 84 in urban areas. It kills too many civilians. For the Netanyahu government, that’s been the upside. In the weeks after October 7, the IDF dropped nearly six hundred 2,000-pound bombs on densely populated areas in Gaza, including on more than 100 officially designated civilian evacuation zones. The slaughter was so grotesque and embarrassing that for a moment the Biden administration paused a shipment of Mark 84s. Those shipments quickly resumed under Trump. Now they’ve accelerated. It’s hard to overstate the scale of the crime the Israeli government is committing in Gaza. Over the last three years, more than a quarter-million Palestinians have been killed or wounded by Israeli forces there. The majority of them have been noncombatants: women, the elderly and tens of thousands of children. Many thousands more remain missing, presumably entombed under the rubble of 200,000 collapsed buildings. So far the Israelis have destroyed 92 percent of all homes in Gaza, and 34 of the 36 hospitals. By comparison, the 1945 Allied bombings of Dresden, now acknowledged as a war crime, destroyed about half of the city’s inhabited buildings. By any definition, what the Netanyahu government has done in Gaza is genocide. The 40,000 new bombs the Trump administration is sending will be used to do the same in Lebanon, and likely in other countries in the region. If you wanted to extend the Iran war into the indefinite future, this is exactly what you’d do. So far none of this has received public scrutiny. At some point, inevitably, it will be described in media accounts as an “arms sale.” It is not an arms sale. It is a gift, funded by American taxpayers through the Foreign Military Financing program, an arrangement designed to disguise welfare as capitalism: Congress appropriates money to the executive branch, which transfers the cash to Israel to “buy” American-made weapons, in this case from General Dynamics. Politicians claim this is a win for America. Most voters have no idea they paid for it. The bill in this case is about $3 billion. Add that to the $352 billion the US Treasury has transferred to Israel since 1951. How did this happen? The request for 40,000 new high-explosive civilian-killing bombs originated at the US Embassy in Jerusalem, which is run by Christian Zionist Ambassador Mike Huckabee and his aide David Milstein, who is the stepson of Fox News host Mark Levin. From there it moved to the State Department, where Marco Rubio enthusiastically approved it. At this point, only four more people need to sign off before the bombs ship to Israel: Senators Jim Risch and Jeanne Shaheen, the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; and Congressmen Brian Mast and Gregory Meeks, the top two members of the equivalent House committee. All four are committed neocons. Collectively they’ve taken millions from the Israel lobby. In 2015, Brian Mast traveled to Israel to volunteer for the Israeli military. In 2023, Mast showed up in the House of Representatives wearing an IDF uniform. It’s hard to imagine any of them hesitating before sending more free bombs to Israel. Only public outrage can stop this.

"Iran International," the propaganda channel that: - is funded by Saudi Arabia, - is extensively used by Israel's Mossad for psy-ops, - ran campaigns to turn the Iranian public against one of the country's most important unifying symbols (the national soccer team), - helped push for crushing sanctions and once people turned to the streets out of desperation and despair told them that only foreign military intervention can rid them of the theocracy, - that same channel is also busy normalizing the nuking of Tehran. With some help on social media from the son of the former Shah and his supporters, of course.

Remarkable reporting by @propublica showing that when Hegseth sought to cut a program designed to protect civilians, every US commander polled rebuffed the idea. Hegseth still slashed the program - a move that likely contributed to the US killing more than 160 schoolchildren in Iran on the Iran war's first day. But the pushback from the commanders suggests that norms around the use of force are, by and large, SUPPORTED by military leaders and that Hegseth's crusade against what he calls "woke" warfare actually undermines US interest. propublica.org/article/hegse…

They changed the META and TikTok algorithms so that Americans wouldn't get to see what Israelis actually do or say: - "What do I care? Kill them. I don't care.” - “The Bible says, this place is for us, it's promised for us, so they can starve to death” - “I think we need to be united and kill them all.”

FT’s account of deliberate destruction of civil life in southern Lebanon is harrowing. In inflicting these humanitarian tragedies Israel is planting seeds of more conflicts to come.
An FT visual investigation found systematic destruction across Israeli-occupied southern Lebanon, crippling systems essential to civilian life, from water and energy infrastructure to medical care. Raya Jalabi reports on the scale of the devastation. ft.trib.al/atpwoGT

⚡️ Joe Kent says he, Tucker Carlson, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie are hoping to build a new political movement or third party built around opposition to U.S. wars, AIPAC, and corporate money, with the initial goal of fielding a candidate for the 2028 presidential campaign. In an interview with Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks, Kent said the group met at Carlson’s home in Maine after concluding that both major parties repeatedly deliver “another war in the Middle East” regardless of how Americans vote. Kent said they may follow the 2028 presidential run with down-ballot races, and acknowledged ballot-access hurdles may force them to run an insurgent candidate through an existing party instead. “We don’t want Israel dictating our foreign policy. We don’t want any more foreign wars. We don’t want to have to run a massive empire,” he said. Kent said the group has urged Carlson to run but he has repeatedly declined. They will seek to finance the effort through grassroots donations rather than corporate PACs. “The second you start taking the corporate PAC money… you’re not truly in charge anyways.” On JD Vance, Kent said he still personally likes him but called him “a captive of the two-party system” who will struggle to ask voters to trust him in 2028 after defending Trump’s war. 🎥 Credit: TYT @cenkuygur | @joekent16jan19

🇵🇸🇮🇱 112 bodies in rows under the sun, wrapped in flags, nearly all from one extended family. Gaza City buried them today, 3 years late, because that's how long it took to dig them out of the rubble. Per Palestinian authorities, an Israeli airstrike flattened a cluster of apartment buildings in Sabra while families slept in November 2023, killing 308 people from the same clan. Women and children among them. Half were recovered back then. The other 153 stayed buried under the wreckage until a team of 40 spent 17 days pulling out 112 of them. One extended family all but wiped out in a single night, and the Israeli military still hasn't said a word about this strike. And this is just one clan. Palestinian health authorities count more than 73,000 dead, with thousands more still under the concrete. Source: CBS News , @TabzLIVE / Writer: Daniyal

For years, Israel was using 2,000lb American bombs to kill Gazan refugees in tents. Both the Biden and Trump administrations permitted it. A precedent was set. Now it appears the US is doing the same in Iran. A 2000lb bomb was dropped on a family house in Qeshm, killing a taxi driver (the father), the mother, and a 2-year-old, according to @nytimes. Yes, a taxi driver. And a toddler. And his mother. "The Times found no indication of a military site near the family’s home or any reports of military casualties from the strike." nytimes.com/2026/07/31/world…
