Hello,
My latest novel The Gele Gang will be available in February 2027.
It is the first of my post-lockdown novels. Inspired by Nigerian weddings I attended, it looks and feels like lime sorbet. It's light, sweet and tart, and cleansed my palate for my next course.

It is interesting that the only time the BBC is interested in hearing from us is when they want us to defend our work. I have nothing to contribute to a platform that has not even deemed it fit to announce and celebrate the Caine Prize, but was willing to give a global audience to a journalist who does not even have expertise in African literature.
If they want a conversation, then they should schedule an interview with Simba or with Nzube, the publisher of the story. I am not hungry for this kind of platform, and I honestly have no interest in participating in a conversation where we are invited only to defend our art. We should not have to constantly defend our right to create art before people who have shown little interest in celebrating it.

for most young african writers, being shortlisted for the caine prize is a career highlight and a game-changer. i imagine it’s the same for simbarashe. to have this moment yanked from him, to have this level of malice thrown at him is just cruel. i hope he feels protected.

Thank you, @S_S_Kundizeza for taking the time to speak with me, the interview and for sharing your process, your inspiration, and your short story, The Blue Fighter, with the world. Hearing how you brought this short story to life is fascinating. Congratulations once again on winning the 2026 Caine Prize for African Writing.

just happy to take a selfie with you...

in the beauty of the blackness

Congratulations @S_S_Kundizeza on winning the 2026 Caine Prize for African Writing with your short story, The Blue Fighter. This is a remarkable achievement and a true inspiration.
Every Zimbabwean, and indeed every African, should be proud of you. You have placed our country on one of the continent's most prestigious literary stages.
Our nation needs a stronger reading culture to defeat ignorance and transform the way we think. Your award is a tonic, and it must become a bridge towards that change. Well done 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Zimbabwean writer Simbarashe Steyn Kundizeza has been announced as the 2026 Caine Prize winner for his outstanding short story, ‘The Blue Fighter’, published by The Shallow Tales Review in 2025.
