Inherited from Lenin, this organizational philosophy demands "freedom of criticism, unity of action." Internal debate is fully democratic until a vote is cast; once a decision is made, all members must execute it collectively to maximize revolutionary effectiveness.

Trotsky’s 1038 Transitional Program famously states that "the historical crisis of mankind is reduced to the crisis of the revolutionary leadership." For Trotskyists, objective conditions for socialism are ripe; the missing link is a disciplined, vanguard party.

A major philosophical contribution to sociology: Trotsky observed that developing nations don't just repeat the historical steps of advanced ones. They borrow modern technologies and skip stages, creating a combination of archaic forms and ultra-modern capitalist structures.

Because the economic foundations of the USSR remained socialized, Trotsky did not advocate for a property revolution. Instead, he called for a supplementary political revolution to overthrow the bureaucracy, restore Soviet democracy, and put workers back in control.

In his text The Revolution Betrayed, Trotsky diagnosed the USSR not as a socialist society, but as a degenerated workers' state. He argued that a parasitic bureaucratic caste (led by Stalin) had usurped political power from the working class while preserving the planned economy.

Marxism is global or it is nothing. Trotsky fiercely opposed Stalin’s theory of "Socialism in One Country." He argued that socialism cannot survive in isolation; it requires the international extension of the revolution to advanced capitalist nations to succeed.
