What a truly sickening response from @gamescom. Multiple indie devs had their laptops stolen from where they believed were protected areas & Gamescom’s response is to blame the victims. Absolutely mind boggling & disgusting.
We are aware of stolen hardware and take these reports very seriously and understand the frustration of affected exhibitors. Since many requests reached us, we would like to inform about general security regulations at the event: Uniformed guards provide general security across the venue. Individual stand security can be booked separately, and exhibitors are advised to insure equipment against theft. This is noted in the terms and conditions of participation and the technical guidelines. All cases have been reported to us and to the police, and investigations are already underway. We also want to ensure that the reported cases are individual cases, which we are very sorry to read. Because security has one of the highest priorities to us as an event and to see that indie developers are affected makes us very sad. At an event of this size, however, there will always be individuals attempting to take advantage of the situation. Our security measures are designed to minimize such risks as effectively as possible.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
While Gamescom frames these thefts as isolated incidents, investigations into the event's security providers have revealed significant vulnerabilities. A WDR investigation found that one-third of the security guards checked had violations, including missing IDs. www1.wdr.de/nachrichten/rh…

“There aren’t a lot of true point-and-click games left, with most modern successors streaming the obtuse mechanics and mediocre storytelling that once defined the genre.” Good lord! Why on earth did someone who is clearly not a fan of adventure games review an adventure game???

Great to see a narrative driven game get such great reviews from the gaming media. Congrats to @A_i and the developers! We look forward to reviewing it on the podcast!

Remember that scam in 2024 that we all said was a scam? Somehow it was successful on Kickstarter but turns it was a scam after all and some people are only realising now. More information below 👇
In 2024, with @timeextension64 and @SlopesGameRoom and @gugames_eu, there was a kerfuffle about Massimiliano Mapelli and his Lucasarts Book Kickstarter, that seemed AI-gen slop taken from Wikipedia & GameFaqs. Then he made a successful KS for almost 4k €. What happened next?🧵

Sigh. We all need to very careful before accusing devs of using AI without any evidence. It should be obvious that Inklingwood used no AI so I would suggest helping the devs below if you can.
Could I get some support from fellow devs and creatives? We got a negative review on Steam for AI use... despite there being absolutely *no* AI use in our game. TL;DR? Give a chance to show that AI wasn't used, or you'll be harming the very same artists you claim to be helping.❤️

Sigh. Another day, another “adventure games are dead” thread. Anybody else bored of this false narrative from people who do no research at all? 🥱
Point-and-click adventures peaked in the 90s. It feels like the whole genre has died since then. If you had to pick your personal #1 point-and-click adventure from that decade, which would it be? The list below is by no means complete, but just to inspire a little. I will go with: The Dig (tough choice leaving Monkey Island 2 and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis behind)

Haven’t played the game but this headline is extremely unprofessional. We should expect better from publications such as these.

Had great chat with the maker of a documentary which will chart the history of LucasArts' game engine SCUMM, behind games like Monkey Island. The interview will be out next week but in the meantime he needs people to show they want it! Sign up scummdoc.com @scummdoc
