EVs depreciate 60-80% in 5 years (vs ICE appreciating 5-6%/yr). That crash in resale value is exactly what makes a ₹10-15L EV affordable at ₹4-6L used.
250M two-wheeler owners in India are one financing innovation away from their first car. Wrote about why the used-EV market (growing 15%/yr) is the bridge on @IndianVCA site :

India has 29 state EV policies. And counting.
Great for experimentation. But an OEM selling across states tracks different incentive windows. A fleet operator hits different tariffs. A charging company faces different land approvals.
State-level innovation got us here. A national framework will take us to scale.
Common rules on charging, incentives, data standards and battery health — not to replace states, but to connect them.

India’s large two-wheeler base represents a substantial pool of potential four-wheeler owners, but the cost of buying and running a car remains a key barrier.
In this edition of #TheContext, @KunalKhattar, Founding Partner, @advantEdge_vc, examines how pre-owned electric cars could provide a more accessible route from two-wheeler to four-wheeler ownership.
Faster depreciation of electric vehicles (EVs), driven by advances in battery technology, improved range, and the pricing of newer models, can make used EVs available at significantly lower prices than when new. Combined with lower running and maintenance costs, this could make them an attractive option for cost-conscious consumers looking to move to four-wheeled mobility.
The piece also looks at how transferable battery warranties can address concerns around battery degradation and replacement costs, helping support a robust secondary market for EVs.

A ₹10-15L EV can become a ₹4-6L used car. Charged at home, it can cost less per km to run than a petrol two-wheeler.

Cabinet just cleared Green Energy Corridor Phase-III. ₹1.86 lakh crore. 135 GW of renewable energy by 2032.
And ₹50,000 crore specifically for 50 GWh of Battery Energy Storage.
This isn't just a power sector story. It's the foundation that makes EV adoption irreversible.
Clean grid is no longer a promise. It's a ₹1.86 lakh crore commitment.

Delhi's Winter Pollution Action Plan kicks in November 1.
Parking charges doubled. Construction banned. 50% work from home. Non BS-VI vehicles restricted.
EVs? Completely exempt. No restrictions whatsoever.
Winter in Delhi is about to become the strongest real-world advertisement for EV ownership the city has ever seen.

India's e-bus market grew 35% in FY26. We're #3 globally in e-bus penetration.
But 85% of India's e-buses arecity fleets. Private e-bus adoption? Less than 5%.
The problem isn't demand. It's financing tenures built for diesel and high voltage charging infrastructure that stops at STU depots.
Policy got the government fleet moving. Now fix the ecosystem for private operators.

India — the only G20 nation to fulfil all Paris COP21 commitments. Ahead of schedule.
Solar capacity: 2 GW in 2014. 160 GW today. 20 crore tonnes of carbon emissions curbed through solar alone.
The world debates. India delivers.
And the next chapter? Clean mobility. EVs. Energy independence.
The foundation is built. Now we accelerate.

Commercial vehicles will lead India's EV transition. But only if three things work together — purpose-built vehicles, the right energy infrastructure, and EV-specific financing.

Biggest ever August for electric mobility in India.
2,98,448 EVs retailed. Up 52.9% YoY. Penetration at 12.3% — up from 9.5% a year ago.
The standout? Electric commercial vehicles nearly tripled YoY to 4,702 units. All-time monthly high.
As FADA puts it — "This is no longer a subsidy story. It's running-cost economics, expanding infrastructure and maturing consumer confidence."

August 2026. A historic first.
Alternative powertrains overtook petrol in passenger vehicles — 41.9% vs 40.8%.
But the real story is EVs:
⚡ 2W EV penetration: 7.7% → 10.7% in one year
⚡ EV retail sales: 2.98 lakh units in August alone
⚡ 3W Commercial vehicle electrification: 56.6% of sales
India's mobility transition is no longer a single-technology story. But EVs are clearly leading the charge.

UltraTech Cement — 200+ MTPA, one of India's largest diesel fleets — is scaling to 600+ electric trucks by December, moving 5M tonnes of clinker a year across seven states.
It's sourcing from four different OEMs at once. Nobody's won this account yet.
That's the opening in industrial logistics electrification.

Electronics: 30-35% of a car’s cost in 2020. 50-55% by 2030.
Every vehicle — ICE or electric — is becoming a computer on wheels.
India’s electronics share of auto components? Just 12% today.
That’s not a gap. That’s an opportunity.

PM E-DRIVE just made component localisation mandatory, not aspirational. From Sept 1, e-truck subsidies require BMS, VCUs, DC-DC converters and motor controllers assembled in India — no more single-supplier CKD battery imports. Localisation is <20% today. That gap is the opportunity.
