I’m Not An Advocate of Marriage; It’s More Tasking for the Woman— Actor Uzor Arukwe
Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has explained why he has never been a strong advocate of marriage, saying he believes women bear more of its responsibilities, particularly when it comes to childbirth and family expectations.
Speaking during a recent interview, the actor noted that women go through several changes and sacrifices in marriage, including bearing children and taking their husbands’ surnames.
“I’ve never really been an advocate of marriage, because I feel like it’s more tasking for the woman. She’s the one that bears the child. She takes your last name. A lot of things happen,” he said.
Arukwe also reflected on the pressure people face to get married at a certain age, recalling how society often questions people who reach 25 without getting married.
“Growing up, you’re 25, you’re not married. What’s happening? At this age, I already have five children,” he said.
The actor added that he had met women who did not want to have children, noting that not every woman shares the same expectations about motherhood.
“I feel like now, there are women who don’t want to even have children. I’ve met at least two or three,” he added.
