In 2011, Nicole Delien went through a 64-day episode in which she slept for almost 24 hours everyday.
She missed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and most of January.
Nicole, from North Fayette, Pennsylvania, had actually been experiencing strange episodes since she was around six years old, but doctors struggled to explain what was happening.
Eventually, specialists at Allegheny General Hospital diagnosed her with Kleine-Levin Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder sometimes called “Sleeping Beauty Syndrome.”
During an episode, sufferers can sleep almost constantly for days or weeks, waking only briefly to eat, drink, or use the bathroom.
Kleine-Levin Syndrome often becomes less severe with age, and Nicole has since reported doing well.
