Actions for firms: “Reject projects that are complicit with the ongoing destruction and erasure of communities of color, including projects that perpetuate economic displacement, criminalize spaces, promote gentrification, and support the prison industrial complex”

Registration will still be live tomorrow morning! I put everything I have over the last month and change in this event. I hope you all enjoy!
One day left to register for Cut/Fill, an unconference addressing the paradigm shift in social awareness and what it means for landscape architecture. Organized by @the_UrbanStudio, which grew from three members of the 2018-2019 LAF Fellowship for Innovation and Leadership.
We call on academic programs to: “Teach students to engage with community members not through short-sighted participation efforts that only extract time, knowledge, and capital, but rather by forming reciprocal partnerships that extend beyond a semester...”
“The profession must develop standards of ethics that promote the dismantling of design techniques that result in the dehumanization of Black people. We cannot design places and spaces that establish the preconditions of violence or reinforce the carceral state.”
“Black student enrollment in BLA programs is 4.4% and just 2.7% in MLA programs. Black landscape architects make up only 3% of practitioners. These numbers are unacceptable.” Read the full letter at aslaadapt.com
“We must come out in clear solidarity with those standing up to injustice, we most hold our profession accountable and take transformative and actionable steps to uphold and amplify agendas within the Black Lives Matter movement” aslaAdapt.com
The concerns addressed in the letter, as well as many other pressing issues within landscape architecture, are the subject of Cut/Fill 2020, organized by Ink Landscape Architects, PLLC, @the_UrbanStudio tomorrow, July 23-24. You can purchase tickets here. eventbrite.com/e/cutfill-202…
