Over 700 people visited Adam Smith’s Panmure House this weekend as part of our annual participation in @DODEdinburgh, coordinated by @thecockburn. As Panmure House is not ordinarily open to the public, Doors Open Days provides a fantastic opportunity for visitors to step inside Adam Smith’s final surviving home and learn more about his legacy, the significance of the House, and the work we do today to continue that legacy. Thank you to everyone who joined us over the weekend. We’re delighted to have welcomed so many interested visitors to Adam Smith's Panmure House and look forward to opening our doors again next year.

Congratulations to Dr Lucy Naga, Panmure House Postdoctoral Researcher, and @DrAdam_Dixon on the publication of their article, "Antimicrobial Effectiveness Within a New Paradigm of Infrastructure", in the peer-reviewed Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics, published by Cambridge University Press. Providing the conceptual foundation for the Panmure House Dialogues on Antimicrobial Effectiveness (AME), the article explores a new framework for understanding antimicrobial effectiveness, arguing that it should be viewed as a form of critical economic infrastructure underpinning public health, food systems, and economic prosperity. Collaborating with leading experts from policy, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, finance, healthcare, and academia, the Dialogues build on this infrastructure framing to explore the social and economic value of AME, the different actors and interests that depend upon it, and how their actions and decisions shape the conditions needed to sustain antimicrobial effectiveness across sectors and scales. As Adam Smith recognised, societies depend upon institutions and public works that support long-term wellbeing and productivity. It is wonderful to see ideas developed at Panmure House contributing to international academic debate and helping to advance understanding of the challenges posed by antimicrobial resistance. Our thanks go to everyone who contributed to the article and participated in the Panmure House Dialogues, sharing their expertise and insights throughout these important discussions. Nietzsche thought liberal society was running on the flames of a Christian morality it couldn't replenish. Is something similar true for those who use AI well? @Brendan_McCord, speaking at @AdamSmithHouse, on the coming divide between those formed in the pre-AI and AI worlds.

We are delighted to announce that @DrAdam_Dixon, Chair of Panmure House, has been awarded a $1.3 million grant from the @templeton_fdn to lead a research project titled “Markets Under Siege: How Geoeconomic Competition Undermines Free Markets”. To help us deliver this ambitious project, we're recruiting three postdoctoral researchers. Each role is linked below for more information. If you, or someone in your network, would be interested in joining this exciting project, we'd love to hear from you. 📅 Applications close 27 September 2026 at 23:55. @HeriotWattUni | @EBS_Global | @wattclubdubai | @HWU_Research | @HWUDubai | @WattClubHWDubai #hiring #postdoctoralvacany #postdoctoral #AcademicJobs #johntempltonfoundation #ResearchOpportunities #AcademicCareer #economicpolicy #geoeconomiccompetition #policy
