people are actually arguing on X that the cash back you get from using a credit card is some sort of evil shady government "good boy points" system, instead of what it is, which is a direct wealth transfer from people who are bad with money to people who are good with money.

I need leftists to understand that outside NYC, all the housing problems they assert as the default state of capitalism don't exist. Most of the country doesn't have rent control, yet housing affordability is better. Austin saw nominal rent declines for multiple years during economic growth. Apartments aren't unmaintained for decades; you mainly ask your landlord to fix the dishwasher or in-unit laundry. There aren't wait lists or brokers, you just call the number on a listing, wire them some money, and move in immediately. They even build new apartments all the time, anywhere it's legal, so much so that it's popular to complain online about being bored of the sight of the many similar apartment blocks investors are building all over the place. Renters complain about style fads, the proliferation of cheap luxury aesthetics, the unfashionable appliances. The rental housing crisis only exists in a couple cities that have a multigenerational lock of leftist governance that are regulated like little historical preservation snowglobes where outsiders moving in are resented and you can't change or add anything to the built environment without multiple political approvals and interest group payoffs.

The entire continued freakout over @bariweiss and CBS News is simply because the left believes they are entitled to controlling the media narrative and feel threatened that even one major news organization might present the other side. If you follow the news closely, you will see that they act like a herd and always cover the same stories from the same perspectives. Far more important is what they choose not to cover. The factual stories and perspectives that they simply ignore because they don’t fit the narratives that the so many of the activists in their news and editorial rooms prefer. They don’t even want people exposed to those stories/views if it’s not coming from outlets they can dismiss like FNC or the NY Post because it might allow people who aren’t openly partisan choose how they understand these issues for themselves. That’s the entire threat. It’s not that CBS News might become ideologically right-wing. There is zero evidence Weiss is pushing for them to only report things from that perspective and plenty of evidence that’s not true. It’s simply that it could expose people to the other side, and that can’t be allowed. So the tantrums will continue.

So many people on here seem to think the point of tech is to strip out what most people call life Shopping is living Reading is living Listening to music is living Being bored is living Existing is living Waiting is living Awkwardness is living Art is living A lot of people don’t seem to know how to feel joy. Or how to let life in They just know how to be productive We need a wholesale shift towards being able to enjoy looking at a plant. Or to wonder about materials or just look at light bouncing off a pool, or to get joy from the details or to ask questions and know people or to savor food , or enjoy touch. It’s the simple joys . It’s the journey. It’s the edges of life. It’s feeling something. It’s letting it all in. It’s thinking. It’s appreciating.

Although not completely a coincidence! The marchers overrated their competence and underestimated the baseline effort and ability required to sustain the institutions. A lot of people who were stupid and unwell were put in charge because based on ideological qualifications and the consequences were predictable.

The Mayor of New York is an imbecile and with Jew hatred running through his veins so extreme that he can’t give up his blood libels even on this day of mourning. I hope those who have the misfortune of working with him @MarkLevineNYC @JulieMenin and @NYPDPC Jessica Tisch explain to him how offensive this is.
This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss. The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes. Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment. To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity.

I sat my 7-year-old down and explained to him that dying industries (legacy media, academia, DNC politics) ride algorithmically driven cultural hysterias both because it’s the only way they can stay relevant and because their business models demand it. He looked up at me and with a tear in his eyes asked, ‘so, for the sake of the journos, the assistant professors, and Dem Politics Inc, we’re obligated to attest to the moral urgency of the hysteria and act completely emotionally dysregulated?’ ‘Yes,’ I answered him. ‘Yes, that’s right.’ And then we both sat quietly.

Robert Nozick explains socialism's attraction to intellectuals: they don't care about the "working class". Rather, they resent capitalists for earning more money than them, despite their apparently inferior merit. They're disappointed meritocrats, not suffering laborers.

Instead of answering the question -- How can we use the same word to describe what happened in Gaza that we use to describe Auschwitz or Cambodia or Rwanda? -- he accuses Israel of using "dehumanizing language" and bombing Gazan hospitals. I'm not sure what counts as "dehumanizing language." Is "Zionist entity" dehumanizing language? What about "Zio-Nazi"? "Settler-colonialist"? Presumably, he knows why Israel attacks hospitals. It's because they're not really hospitals but military bases that contain civilians -- the better to invite civilian casualties. If he were honest, he would concede the calculus of the Israeli-Hamas conflict: The Jews want to limit the number of Palestinian deaths, because every death isolates them a little more on the world stage; and Hamas wants to maximize the number of Palestinian deaths. Without Palestinian blood, there is no cause. How else are they to drum up international support? But maybe, just maybe, he knows none of this. El-Sayed appears to inhabit a fantasy land. Who, exactly, is proposing we ship Arabs "over there"? Where is "there"? None of this is especially important when it comes to representing Michigan in D.C., but it's noteworthy, because his whole political identity is rooted in The Struggle. Without that, there is no identity. Which makes one wonder: Is the would-be senator's sense of self founded on delusion and mythology?
Scott Galloway asks Abdul El-Sayed: Do you understand why Jews such as myself find your use of the term genocide as disqualifying? El-Sayed: In some respects, people don't want to use the word because of the moral implication of what ought to be done following it.
