A remarkable story of a Cold War border. I've been visiting Gorizia since I was a child to see family friends. Watching the transition from a fortified border to an open meeting point between European neighbors has been nothing short of extraordinary.
In one European city, you can walk across a public square and enter another country. For decades, doing that would have been illegal. The reason is that after World War II, a border was drawn straight through Gorizia, splitting the city between Italy and Yugoslavia. 1/n
