I want to say a few words about Max, the very best dog. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon after a six-month battle with Stage IV lymphoma. Throughout his treatment, he had more good days than bad, going on many walks with his dad, mom and sister and swimming in the Puget Sound when his immune system allowed it. It was not easy emotionally or financially to keep him going, but I wouldn’t trade that extra time for anything.  We adopted Max in 2016 after Sara saw an ad for him on Craigslist. We drove south on I-5 and eventually met an Eastern European man in an unmarked white van in the Tacoma mall parking lot. When I asked what breed he was, he said he bred his golden retriever with his neighbor’s Australian shepherd, but Max didn’t look like either breed. Subsequent DNA tests were inconclusive. Still, he was the cutest puppy, as evidenced by the fact he got featured on the WeRateDogs Twitter account a few weeks later. We weren’t leaving without him. So I paid the guy $600 in cash and got the out of there.  Max instantly became the center of attention in our household, living with us at our apartment in Ballard, condo in West Seattle, and then our home in Federal Way for the past four years, where he got to enjoy our big backyard after years of city living. His hobbies included playing fetch with his dad, barking at the squirrels that ran along our greenbelt, and chasing the planes that flew over our house. He loved trips to Starbucks for pup cups and really any other drive-through experience, where the employees routinely marveled at his sheer fluffy cuteness. But nothing got him more excited than trips to see my parents in Whatcom County, where he could wander freely around the farm and bark at the neighboring alpacas.   Max only lived eight years, but he got to experience a lifetime of love. He was omnipresent with Sara and me while we worked from home during the pandemic and then worked from home even more after Covid. We are both devastated but also feel so grateful for the nearly decade we got the best companion imaginable. Our home will never be the same again.  RIP to a very good boy.

I'm happy WSU finally switched to the clearly superior quarterback, but I can't get over how cowardly Kirby Moore's decision-making was yesterday. Does he not have an analytics guy? Is he just making decisions based on vibes? Where is the urgency? So many questions right now in Pullman.

Starting Pinnick for six games instead of Eshelman was an act of terrorism

G6 should come together and sue for anti-trust, lack of representation. No other tournament in NCAA lacks this representation except the CFP.

Brewers 1B Jake Bauers decided to retire two years ago. His wife was going to go back to work as a teacher and he would be a stay-at-home-dad. Three weeks later, though, she found out she was pregnant with their second child. Bauers decided to return to baseball only because his family needed health insurance. Tonight he was named MVP of the National League Championship Series.

Questioning whether or not Wazzu and Oregon State should count is hilarious. Why aren’t we questioning if Rutgers and Maryland should count instead?
Nearly a dozen power conference programs don’t meet a proposed scheduling requirement in an expanded CFP, which mandates 10 P4 games. But some of those have scheduled Oregon State or Washington State. Should they count? More in our @On3 sports biz column on3.com/news/can-greg-sankey…

Watching Oregon State’s offense after suffering through last night’s WSU game is like experiencing a different sport.

Pinnick is 7-of-10 for 38 yards in the second half with a fumble that led to a touchdown. Washington State has to consider someone else at QB. He's missing plays that are there. #GoCougs #Wazzu

Touchdown Utah State. A third down prayer to Eli Wood goes for six. Guy has caught everything. Except he juggled it. And it doesn't get looked at. How on earth is that not reviewed?? #GoCougs #Wazzu

Edward R. Murrow is rolling in his grave.
News release: WSU is partnering with FanWord, an AI company, to create AI-generated stories like game recaps, feature stories, player bios and "other editorial content." Soon, some of the content you see produced by @WSUCougars will be generated by AI
