SOUTH COUNTY FOOTBALL - Laguna Beach and El Modena played a highly competitive game on Thursday night, reflecting the rich tradition and heritage of both OC Football programs. Ultimately, El Modena secured a 21–14 victory, though the contest remained close throughout and could have gone either way at the end. Both teams were well-coached and displayed solid defensive play throughout the contest. Laguna played shorthanded, having lost three star players to injury in recent weeks, and lost a starting offensive lineman in the first quarter. Many veteran players were forced to play on both sides of the ball and second-stringers stepped it up to compensate for the missing personnel. This adversity did not deter Laguna and they seem to love the challenge of always having to compete against larger public schools.  Laguna Beach now prepares for next Friday’shuge matchup against Dana Hills, an intense South County rivalry that goes way back. The Breakers prevailed last year in a battle of un-beatens. @johnshanahan @lbhsbreakerfootball #lagunabeachhighschool #BreakerStrong #NFHSNetwork  @NFHSNetwork @latsondheimer @mikehuntley63 @ocvarsityguy @SoCalVarsity @SteveFryer @OCFOOTBALL100 @JPWestMedia

SOUTH COUNTY FOOTBALL - On homecoming night, San Clemente High School overpowered Yorba Linda in an exciting 28-0 victory. Quarterback Preston Beck led the offense with three passing touchdowns, supported by another standout performance from Jaxson Rex on both sides of the ball. San Clemente’s defense remained dominant, shutting out Yorba Linda for the first time in years. Despite a challenging week marked by four forfeits, Yorba Linda did their best to compete against a San Clemente team that was solid in every phase of the game. San Clemente (6-0) will face Los Alamitos in a critical league matchup on October 9th at Los Alamitos. #onetownoneteam @latsondheimer @mikehuntley63 @ocvarsityguy @SoCalVarsity @SBLiveCA @SteveFryer @OCSportsZone @tritonprincipal @tritonfootball @SCHSTritons @JPWestMedia @NFHSNetwork

Celebrating its 42nd annual event, the Maritime Festival was a success this past weekend at Dana Point Harbor. The Ocean Institute estimated an attendance of 13,000 as they continue to play a vital role in preserving our maritime history, traditions and environmental education. For those of us living on the South Coast of Orange County, where the ocean shapes our daily lives, these events provide a valuable opportunity to learn about our heritage, hear stories and appreciate early maritime voyages. Plus have some fun, enjoy some good food, entertainment, re-enactments and the late afternoon cannon battles. While the brig “Pilgrim”, as the “Queen of the armada”, will always be missed under full sail off Dana Point, her legacy and memory remain a part of the heart and soul of the Maritime Festival.  @ocean_institute @maritime_festival @danapointhistorical @cityofdanapoint @danapointchamber @danapointharbor @coffeeimporters @danawharf @captdaveswhalewatching #brigpilgrim #danapoint #tallships #twoyearsbeforethemast

Capo Valley football christened their newly renovated stadium with a huge 33-23 win versus a strong Downey team. The halftime score was 15 to 14 with Downey leading. The second half included some big plays and defense with Capo pulling ahead to take the win. Coach Sean Curtis was impressed with the Downey team, saying, “It was just as a chess match from head coach to head coach, got a lot of respect for Coach Williams and his whole staff. You can just tell they’re a really well-coached team and will win a lot of games.” Curtis was proud of the offensive team play behind QB Talon Spencer. Capistrano Valley starts the season at 2-0 after returning from a win against Damien in Hawaii and tropical storm “Lala” two weeks ago. On Thursday, August 13rd, San Clemente High School’s football team traveled to Kauai for an early-season opener against Kapa'a High School. Despite losing their starting running back to an injury early in the game, San Clemente rallied to deliver a strong performance. The 23-8 victory was defined by a cohesive team effort, highlighted by the play of quarterback Preston Beck and BYU-bound Jaxson Rex. Spectators witnessed a hard-hitting, competitive contest. Kapa'a High School, currently ranked ninth in Hawaii’s state power rankings, proved to be a formidable opponent and arguably the best team on the island of Kauai. Although they lost, Kapaa’s resilient play suggests a promising season ahead. For San Clemente, the trip provided a valuable opportunity to experience Kauai, aloha, and strengthen team chemistry through a challenging road game. Next up for SCHS, a tough Tustin team. @Tritonfootball #onetownoneteam @SteveFryer @ocvarsity @Mikehuntley63 @latsondheimer @OCSportsZone

CIF-SS Division 2 Championship - This Saturday.  Asked about the closeness and progression of this 2025 San Clemente Tritons team, Coach Jaime Ortiz said  “Teams that want to continue playing continue to work and that's exactly what we're doing. Our mantra is one town, one team. I think the big thing here s they grow up together. They play NJB Basketball, they play Little League, they play Pop Warner. And it's a family atmosphere. When you have a tight group like this, they'll fight for each other every single day of the week, and that's what family is all about”. SC (9-4) handled an 11-1 Leuzinger team 35-7 in Lawndale on Friday night. Next up: The CIF-SS Div2 Championship - San Clemente (9-4) against Los Alamitos (11-2) at San Clemente’s Thalassa stadium on Saturday 11-29 at 7pm. @latsondheimer @mikehuntley63 @ocvarsityguy @ActionArchives @SoCalVarsity @SBLiveCA @SteveFryer @OCSportsZone @OCFOOTBALL100 @CIFSS @tritonprincipal @tritonfootball @SCHSTritons #onetownoneteam

Weather had an impact on the CIF-SS Div2 Quarterfinal game between San Clemente and Vista Murrieta. SC Head Coach Jaime Ortiz said, “We knew we were going to have to run the football with this weather coming in. We didn't know exactly what to expect. The first half, the ball was kind of slippery and bouncing around a little bit. I thought that Carson Sloan did a great job running the football tonight.” In the end, the Tritons prevailed on the soaked field with a 32-7 victory. SC will now face Leuzinger in the Div2 Semifinals on Friday, Nov 21. @latsondheimer @mikehuntley63 @ocvarsityguy @SoCalVarsity @SBLiveCA @SteveFryer @SOCoPrepSports @OCSportsZone @OCFOOTBALL100 @CIFSS @TeranRodriguez1 @tritonprincipal @tritonfootball @SCHSTritons  #onetownoneteam
