Today, we remember the lives lost during the #EndSARS protests and stand in solidarity with the families, friends and all Nigerians whose lives were forever changed by that painful chapter in our history. Their courage, their voices and their demand for justice must never be forgotten. The call for an end to police brutality, respect for human rights, accountability and a country where every Nigerian can live with dignity remains as important as ever. It’s six years later. We ask for Justice from the government for those affected and those that were involved in the shooting should be brought to book. We owe those we lost more than remembrance. We owe them a commitment to keep demanding justice, to keep holding those in power accountable, and to keep working towards a Nigeria where no life is treated as expendable and no citizen is punished for demanding a better future. We will not give up. We will not forget. We will keep pushing until the Nigeria we dream of; a just, safe and accountable Nigeria that works for everyone becomes a reality. May the souls of those we lost rest in peace. Their memory lives on in the struggle for a better Nigeria. #EndSARS #justice #accountability #newnigeria

Before asking Nigerians to pay more, show us what their taxes have delivered. If the calims in the video circulating about a 25% tax on Nigerians’ earnings are true , then it raises important questions about what the law actually says. The current tax framework uses progressive rates; it does not impose a flat 25% tax on everyone’s earnings. That said, the major accountability question remains: what are Nigerians getting in return for the taxes they pay? How have these taxes translated into better healthcare, quality education, reliable electricity, safer communities, decent roads and opportunities to earn a living? How many ordinary Nigerians can point to a tangible improvement in their lives because of the taxes they contribute? And where government proposes changes to tax policy, the public deserves clear answers: What is the purpose? Who will bear the burden? How will the revenue be spent? What safeguards will prevent waste and corruption? How will citizens measure the results? Taxation must not be treated merely as a way for government to generate revenue. It must come with transparency, accountability and measurable public benefits. Citizens deserve to know where their money goes and what it achieves. Before demanding more, government must demonstrate what it has done with what it already collects. #accountability #goodgovernance

“Your family’s story is not your story. You have your own story to create.” At 14, Jessica Nufi discovered the power of her voice. Through ActionAid Nigeria’s Girl Led Research project, she gained confidence, learned about her rights and began encouraging other girls to speak up. As we continue to mark the International Day of the Girl Child week, we are reminded that investing in girls’ rights means giving them the opportunity to learn, lead and shape their own futures. Stand with girls. Invest in their rights. Help create change. Read Jessica’s story and donate today: bit.ly/4i1vOkW #DayOfTheGirl #InvestInGirls #GirlsRights #EndChildMarriage

They nurture the land, preserve generations of knowledge, sustain their families and keep their communities thriving. In so many ways, rural women are at the heart of the relationship between people and the natural world. This International Day of Rural Women, we celebrate their strength, ingenuity and invaluable contributions to our communities and our planet. We honour the women whose hands cultivate more than crops, whose knowledge helps protect our natural resources, and whose everyday efforts make a lasting difference. At ActionAid Nigeria, we celebrate rural women not only for what they give, but push for their right to live with dignity, exercise their agency and lead change in their communities. Happy International Day of Rural Women🧡🌍 #InternationalDayOfRuralWomen #AllNigerianWomenMatter #CanadaDevNG

Since 2019, the Kampke Shelter in the Federal Capital Territory, established by Christian Women for Excellence and Empowerment in Nigerian Society (CWEENS) @cweensfct, has supported 165 survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). With funding from @CanHCNigeria through the Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) Nigeria Project and now the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Nigeria (RWVL) Project, ActionAid Nigeria provided a sub-grant to establish the shelter and has continued to strengthen CWEENS’ organisational capacity, GBV programming and coordination with key actors. During a visit to the shelter, ActionAid Nigeria’s Country Director, @AndrewMamedu , joined a GAC delegation led by Ms Emi Furuya, Director General for the West Africa and Maghreb Bureau. The delegation also included Mr Arash Irantalab, Counsellor and Head of Development Cooperation, and Josephine Obinyan, International Assistance Officer. The visit highlighted the importance of investing in women-led organisations to strengthen support for survivors and advance a Nigeria where women and girls can live free from violence. #AllNigerianWomenMatter #EndGBV #CanadaDevNG

Have you collected your PVC? INEC began distributing newly issued Permanent Voter Cards on 9 October, and collection is now happening at the ward level, the closest place for most of us to pick up our cards. Ward-level collection ends on Thursday, 15 October. After that, collection moves to INEC’s Local Government Area (LGA) offices. If you haven't collected yours yet, drop your ward in the comments, and we’ll help you find where to go.

Every girl deserves the freedom to learn, dream and shape her future. Yet child marriage continues to take these opportunities away from millions of girls in Nigeria and around the world. Today, ActionAid Nigeria calls for stronger action to protect girls, keep them in school and create opportunities for them to thrive. Happy International Day of the Girl Child! #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild #EndChildMarriage #AllNigerianWomenMatter #CanadaDevNG

Any measure to ease the burden of rising fuel prices on Nigerians is welcome. However, is ₦1,350 per litre truly affordable for millions of Nigerians who are already struggling with the cost of living? A price ceiling may help manage volatility, but it does not automatically make fuel affordable. How will the government ensure that CNG savings translate into lower transport fares and that cash transfers reach the households that need them most? Nigerians need more than announcements. We need transparent implementation, clear reporting and measurable results. Good governance is not just about stabilising prices; it is about ensuring that essential goods and services are within the reach of ordinary citizens. "Every human deserves to live free from fear. Gender-Based Violence is now officially prohibited and gazetted in our community bye-laws. Violators will face the law. As custodians of culture, the change starts with us." — HRM King Maclean Ubuo, The Okilomu-Ibe, Engenni Kingdom, Rivers State. True leadership acts decisively. We celebrate HRM King Maclean Ubuo for taking a definitive stand against Gender-Based Violence in Rivers State. By adapting the Rivers State VAPP Law into gazetted community bye-laws, Engenni Kingdom is setting a brilliant precedent for how cultural institutions can champion human rights and safeguard women, girls, and the vulnerable. The law is clear. The community is ready. The change has begun. The Minister of Agriculture @SenatorAKyari says food prices have reduced by up to 50%. First, can the average market woman, farmer or Nigerian who goes to the market every day attest to this claim? How was this 50% reduction measured? Which food commodities were used? What was the baseline, which markets were surveyed, and over what period was the comparison made? Most importantly, who is actually feeling this 50% reduction? A reduction in the price of some commodities in some markets is welcome. But government claims about food affordability must be reflected in the everyday experience of Nigerians. Let us hear from the people who buy and sell food every day. If food prices have truly fallen by 50%, Nigerians should be able to feel it, see it and attest to it. The question is not only what the data says. The question is: what does the Nigerian in the market experience? #accountability #goodgovernance

The recruitment of ad-hoc staff is an important part of preparing for the 2027 General Election. We will call on @inecnigeria to strictly follow its guidelines and ensure that the recruitment process is transparent, credible and non-partisan. We also call on CSOs and citizens to monitor the process across the country and ensure that only qualified and eligible individuals are engaged. The credibility of an election begins long before election day. If the process of recruiting those who will administer the election is compromised, it can undermine public confidence in the entire electoral process. The time to act is now. #accountability #goodgovernance

Today, on #WorldTeachersDay, we celebrate Nigeria’s teachers, the people who educate, inspire and shape our future. But celebrating teachers must go beyond words. Teachers need fair pay, continuous training, decent working conditions and well-resourced classrooms. Public schools need adequate, sustainable and accountable financing to deliver quality education for every child. That is why ActionAid Nigeria stands in solidarity with the Nigeria Union of Teachers in calling on the government to GO PUBLIC, FUND EDUCATION. Nigeria must turn public revenue into stronger investment in education, particularly basic education, and ensure resources reach teachers, schools, and classrooms. As conversations around tax reforms and the Universal Basic Education Act continue, citizens must be able to ask: Where is education funding going? Are teachers receiving the support they need? Are our schools adequately funded? Can communities track how education resources are spent? Public education is a public good. Investing in teachers means investing in Nigeria’s future. This #WorldTeachersDay, our message is clear: GO PUBLIC. FUND EDUCATION. PAY TEACHERS FAIRLY. FUND OUR SCHOOLS. BUILD OUR FUTURE. #GoPublicFundEducation #WorldTeachersDay #PayTax4Wetin #FundEducation #EducationForAll #TaxJustice #PublicEducation #ActionAidNigeria
