The Middle East’s oil advantage goes beyond scale and cost. The UAE and Saudi Arabia also produce some of the world’s lowest carbon intensity oil.

One of the most striking things about being in the #UAE 🇦🇪 recently was the contrast between recent geopolitical headlines and life on the ground. Despite a major conflict next door, in #Dubai it was very much business as usual.
It says a lot about the resilience this region has built and its ability to keep investing, doing business and looking ahead despite geopolitical shocks.

AI can also make energy use and production more efficient.
The IEA estimates that widespread adoption of existing AI applications in buildings could save around 300 TWh of electricity every year, roughly equal to the combined annual generation of Australia and New Zealand.
Energy companies are also using AI to optimize production. Aramco says AI technologies contributed to a 15% increase in output at its Khurais oil field.

Energy leaders at @GastechEvent 2026 explored how better measurement, leak detection, and gas monetisation can help reduce methane emissions while recovering lost value. Zubin Bamji, Manager, Global Flaring and Methane Reduction (GFMR) Partnership, @WorldBankGroup, highlighted leadership commitment as critical to accelerating methane reduction, while the wider discussion called for stronger collaboration across the gas value chain.

Resilience is a word we hear everywhere in energy. What does it actually mean?
At #Gastech2026, I explored this question with Cristian Signoretto of @eni Tom Summers of @Shell & De la Rey Venter of MidOcean Energy, looking at #LNG supply chains that can absorb disruption, adapt and continue delivering energy.
My takeaway: resilience is not about avoiding disruption - that is simply not realistic. It’s about having enough options to adapt when disruption comes.
Speaking of adapting... not even the most skilled local hairdressers could beat #Bangkok humidity. @GastechEvent @GastechInsights

“The End of the Energy Market? Are We in the Age of the Strategic Bloc? A provocative title for a very interactive Executive Boardroom discussion I moderated in Bangkok.
My main takeaway: no one can do it alone.
Trade flows may shift, partnerships may change and geopolitical fragmentation may deepen. But #energy remains deeply interconnected.
Thanks to my excellent fellow participants @ief_sg, @Osama_Mobarez_ , @DerekJGrossman ,Shehryar Omar, Nobuo Tanaka & the @GastechEvent team for the impeccable organisation and support throughout.

Offshore production already accounts for around 30% of global oil output — and its share is set to grow.
From Brazil and Guyana to Namibia and the Gulf of America, deepwater projects are expanding the world’s supply options and reducing dependence on any single region.

Immense pride in being admitted as a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Fuellers — a very special honour, both personally and professionally.
The Fuellers are the City of London’s Energy Livery Company, making this honour particularly meaningful to me: energy has been at the heart of my professional life, taking me across countries, markets and governments.
Being formally admitted and enrobed at Barber-Surgeons’ Hall in London connects that professional world with a remarkable centuries-old City tradition.
Liverymen also participate in the civic life of the City, including the historic elections of the Sheriffs and Lord Mayor of London.
A memorable milestone — and I am still only slightly disappointed that I wasn't allowed to keep the robe!

Oil markets remain on a verbal roller coaster, with daily price movements driven by statements as much as by events. The geopolitical risk premium is impossible to measure precisely, but recent swings of around $20–25/bbl show how quickly markets add and remove it.
As long as diplomacy remains credible, there is reason for cautious optimism.

Over the past few weeks, one theme kept recurring across my TV interviews. Whenever oil prices spiked, especially when Brent briefly moved above $100 per barrel, the conversation quickly turned to an "energy crisis".
Yet there is nothing magical about $100. It is a psychological threshold more than an economic one.
I would reserve the term energy crisis for situations where sustained higher prices or supply disruptions translate into widespread economic disruption.
Not every bout of market volatility is a crisis.
