“Actions by the UN Security Council should help ease tensions and bring about a ceasefire and the resumption of talks, rather than endorse illegal acts of war, still less add fuel to the fire”
Chinese FM Wang Yi held a phone conversation with the current chair of the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Bahraini FM Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.
Wang elaborated on China’s principled position of opposing aggression and advocating peace. A ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities are the common call of the international community. Actions by the UN Security Council should help ease tensions and bring about a ceasefire and the resumption of talks, rather than endorse illegal acts of war, still less add fuel to the fire.
#China stands ready to work with #Bahrain to promote a ceasefire, restore peace, achieve lasting regional stability, and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the #GlobalSouth, especially small and medium-sized countries.

Pagers are a reliable, low-distraction option still used in some healthcare systems globally (e.g., parts of NHS & US hospitals for critical alerts).
However, in fast-paced EDs, evidence shows pagers often lead to delays & incomplete info: studies report faster response times with smartphones/secure messaging (often ~2–3 min medians vs. longer pager loops), better coordination (e.g., most staff report improved teamwork via apps), & reduced errors through real-time sharing of images, labs, or consults.
Pagers excel for one-way alerts but lack bidirectional dialogue, EHR integration, or AI tools for transcription/notes/workflow optimisation.
A balanced policy using pagers for urgent alerts + secure government-issued devices/apps for complex communication, driven by evidence & behavioural insights, could maintain discipline while enabling tech/AI progress that’s highly desirable & potentially revolutionary in resource-constrained systems like Punjab’s public hospitals.

Punjab Govt’s commitment to making patient care the absolute priority in Punjab’s public hospitals is commendable. However, a complete ban on mobile devices risks removing a vital tool for ED doctors & staff and calls for a more nuanced approach.
Mobile devices aren’t just used for calls anymore. They’re essential tools providing real-time access to guidelines, drug databases, EHRs for efficient documentation, & increasingly AI for tasks such as transcription/notes, workflow optimisation, reducing admin burden & freeing hours for direct patient interaction, as evidenced in latest studies.
A balanced approach, driven by evidence and behavioural insights, could achieve discipline without hindering vital progress towards tech/AI-driven care—highly desirable and potentially revolutionary in resource-constrained systems like Punjab’s public hospitals.
Patient care deserves both focus and the best tools!

Extremely interesting proposal by Wang Yi in his speech that I haven't seen anyone talk about yet: he proposed to merge the Belt and Road Initiative with Europe's own version of it.
That's the quote: "China is willing to synergize high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with the European Union’s Global Gateway strategy, so as to empower each other and empower the entire world."
Europe should really consider it. Unbeknownst to most, China made the same proposal to the US at the start of the BRI (which goes to show it wasn't done in the spirit of undermining the US as many claim) and the US flatly rejected the offer. Later, John Kerry (Secretary of State at the time) said this was one of the biggest mistakes of his career. Maybe Europe should not make the same mistake...
Nobody seems to have come up with a full transcript of Wang Yi, China's top diplomat, at the Munich Security Conference so I have made one pekingnology.com/p/wang-yi-a…

The heart of medicine is human connection, compassion and empathy, not “big bucks.” It’s rather unfortunate for the common person to think otherwise.
While it may be true that many join the profession for "big bucks," this mindset is precisely what’s eroding the medical field.
Just when one thinks we’ve reached the ebb of morality in the healthcare profession, someone else comes along and sinks even lower.
The response in the attached post exemplifies all that is wrong with the system, where targeting, abuse, mockery, and mobbing have become the norm.
In Islamic jurisprudence, there is no explicit requirement for women to change their last names to that of their husbands after marriage. The practice of changing names is purely cultural than religious. Islamic tradition places a strong emphasis on knowing one’s lineage and maintaining family ties, which is why it is common for Muslim women to retain their maiden names after marriage. The Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ wives, for example, did not change their names after marriage, indicating a precedent for women to retain their maiden names.

مریم اپنے خاوند کا نام کیوں نہیں لکھواتی ہے ؟ کیا کیپٹن صفدر پھر نہ ہی سمجھے ؟

One scheme do mortals make, yet Heaven hath another,
Decreed by God above, our plans to smother.
Verily, 'tis His will that, in the end, shall stand,
O'er all designs and dreams of human hand.
