People say, "You're a professor, you must be rich.", and I say uh...no...I'm not...but I *live near* rich people and teach their children, and I've studied them, and I've seen how they make other people's lives miserable, including mine.

Shane Gillis bombs #SNL monologue with cheap shots at women:
“Also, I haven’t been to the gym in so long I didn’t know women just dress like wh*res now? Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe [it]. Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. You’ve seen the shorts? They’re those neon, like, artificial vape-colored [shorts], and the wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the butth*le. And don’t look! You’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look, because they are filming. I’m in the background of ten TikToks right now.”

This is bait, most people who live a normal life know the real value of the $900 Amex Platinum card is to open enough of them that you can use the cards to shingle your roof, saves so much money on regular shingles.
You can tell how poor someone is by what they complain about.
Amex platinum is basically free $895 for most people who live a normal life. In fact it has positive expectated value if you aren't retarded. If anything it may be commercially underpriced.
The 4PM guaranteed late check-out and free breakfast for two alone would pay for itself. At 5 star hotels breakfast, they include free daily breakfast for two around $60-80 per day. If you travel even 14 days a year that covers your membership and more ($1000 value).
I automatically get $400 back annually at Resy restaurants I would go to anyway every quarter ($100). Its a big list of restaurants it's applied automatically even if you dont use the Resy App.
You also get $300 back on your Equinox membership.
You get $300 in free Lululemon gift cards per year ($75 a quarter) to either use later or save up and gift later to people.
If you are going to spend anyway the point system is incredibly valuable to get 1st class flights later. Anyone complaining either has a very low socioeconomic status, does not travel, or is horrible at math.

It's difficult to overestimate how damaging this view of teaching and learning has been for so many kids.
Virtually every teacher trained over the last 50 years was taught that knowing stuff is the least important part of thinking.

Guy writes about writing...to try to convince his audience...that writing's not that important...
The head of the philosophy department at Williams College downplays the pedagogical value of writing:
“What if we are mistaken in treating writing as the highest cultivation of thought? The evidence that supports this belief is thin at best. Writing can be useful cognitive scaffolding for memory and self-regulated learning, but the notion that it is the best process for developing thinking skills is a fairly recent idea, traceable to the 1970s writing-across-the-curriculum movement.”

White privilege doesn’t mean white people don’t struggle. It means whiteness itself isn’t the reason you’re struggling, and pretending those are the same thing is exactly how privilege protects itself.

Seeing this in undergrads wanting to go into health care as they got college out of their way has been one of the biggest terrors of my career.
