This is a really funny Xi video, which I've never seen before. I just added subtitles in English to it ๐Ÿ‘‡ He explains the art of giving gifts to foreign leaders. The South Korea anecdote is particularly hilarious: he explains that when China had to find a gift for President Park Geun-hye, they went through her autobiography, where she wrote that if sheโ€™d ever had a first love (she was unmarried), he would be Zhao Zilong, a legendary general from the Three Kingdoms. So they had Fan Zeng, one of Chinaโ€™s most famous painters, paint her crush ๐Ÿ˜‚ Xi canโ€™t resist adding that Zhao Zilong happens to come from Zhengding, the county he ran in the 1980s, which makes him "very proud too." Xiโ€™s actual point is that good diplomacy is personal and that you need to do deep research on the people youโ€™re dealing with: reading their biographies, knowing their taste, their history, etc. It signals respect and, as he puts it, is "a very, very effective way of reaching peopleโ€™s hearts."

If Carney pulls that off itโ€™d be incredible. It would allow: -Canadians to visit and *work in* the EU/EEA visa free. -Canadian defense companies to be a priority provider in Europe. -Europeans to have visa free tourism in Canada and accelerated immigration. -Open up Canada to competition in banking which is currently a monopoly. -Expand free trade agreements in the EEA which has a very different product footprint than Canada. All while not taking on the economic risk of having the Euro because itโ€™s only an associated member. It benefits Europe. But it REALLY benefits Canada. Anyone who has anything bad to say about this is parroting talking points without understanding any of the economic or policy impacts.

THE CATASTROPHIC CORRUPTION OF THE TRUMP TARIFFS โ€œImagine the government โž• $100 to the price of something you buy in the name of creating more jobs in America. You pay the extra $100. Later, the SCOTUS rules that the government never had the authority to impose the charge. No jobs were created & everyone is $100 poorer. You would assume at the very least that you get your $100 back. You donโ€™t. The company that collected the $100 gets to keep it & they can even take some of their ill-gotten profits & donate it (as a kickback) to the government (officials). Making matters more despicable, imagine that while the legality of that $100 charge is still being fought in court, the family firm of a US cabinet official out promoting the policy he knows is illegal.... buys the rights to those future refunds, when it is found to be illegal. Thatโ€™s what happened with Donald Trumpโ€™s tariffs.โ€
The Catastrophic Corruption of the Trump Tariffs Imagine the government adds $100 to the price of something you buy in the name of creating more jobs in America. You pay the extra $100. Later, the Supreme Court rules that the government never had the authority to impose the charge. No jobs were created and everyone is $100 poorer. You would assume at the very least that you get your $100 back. You donโ€™t. The company that collected the $100 gets to keep it and they can even take some of their ill-gotten profits and donate it to the government to support more policies exactly like this . Making matters more despicable, imagine that while the legality of that $100 charge is still being fought in court, the family firm of a US cabinet official out promoting the policy he knows is illegal -- at the same time begins exploring whether he can buy the rights to those future refunds when it is in fact fpound to bve illegal. Thatโ€™s what happened with Donald Trumpโ€™s tariffs. In April 2025, Trump announced sweeping tariffs designed to protect American workers and rebuild American manufacturing. One of their most aggressive advocates was Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Before joining the administration, Lutnick spent nearly thirty years running Cantor Fitzgerald, the Wall Street firm that made him a billionaire. When he entered government, leadership passed to his sons. While Lutnick was publicly advocating Trumpโ€™s tariffs, Cantor was reportedly exploring buying the rights to potential tariff refunds from companies collecting them from you. The tariffs were already facing serious legal challenges. Everyone involved knew there was a possibility that the courts could rule that the President lacked the authority to impose them. A cabinet secretary was helping promote a massive illegal government policy while the financial firm he had spent his career building, now run by his sons, explored how to profit when that same policy was subsequently declared unlawful. Cantor and Lutnick say it did not execute these trades, and reporting about whether transactions occurred has conflicted. Here is the circularity. The tariff was sold politically as protection for the American worker. The tariff cost was paid by you, the American consumers. And when the government was ordered to return the money, legal refund went to the company that took your money not you who paid it. Meanwhile, the Cabinet Secretary the most aggressive promoter of the illegal tariffs was exploring creating contracts to turn those refunds of YOUR MONEY into huge personal profits. And last but not least the companies that kept the refunds are then able to fund the Trump government via crypto purchase of TrumpCoin, subscriptions to advance previews of Trump policy announcements and donations to the polical party and its pet projects, like the ballroom. So follow the money. The worker supplied the justification. The consumer he cost. The corporation held the refund claim. The corporations may have sold that claim to the Trump Cabinet member who most aggressively pushed the tariffs and your money flows back to the people making these policies. Meanwhile manufacturing jobs stay in Mexico and China.. The is one of the most outrageous scams I have ever witnessed. That people so close to the creation and promotion of government policy were anywhere near the opportunity to profit from the known possibility that the policy itself would be overturned. And remember why the tariffs were politically possible in the first place. For decades, American workers watched corporations benefit enormously from globalization while factories disappeared and manufacturing communities deteriorated. Trump promised those people that government was finally going to protect them. Instead, they found themselves at the losing end of another financial transaction sold as a way to help them. The worker was promised protection. The consumer paid. The corporation got the refund. And people close to the government tried to profit from it. That is the catastrophic corruption of the Trump tariffs.

You are not the doer. There is no individual entity doing anything. Everything simply happens. Look right now. The hand moves. The eyes blink. The heart beats. The breath flows. Did you consciously command any of it? Are you breathing, or is breathing simply happening? Now observe a thought. Did you create it? Did you know what the next thought would be before it appeared? If you are truly the thinker, stop thinking for five minutes. You cannot. Thoughts keep appearing. So where is the thinker? Even the thought โ€œI did thisโ€ appears after the action has already happened. The action comes first. Then the mind claims ownership. Events happen. Deeds are done. There is no individual doer thereof. When you believe โ€œI am the doer,โ€ success creates pride, failure creates guilt, and life becomes a struggle to control what cannot be controlled. When non-doership is understood, life continues. You work. You speak. You love. You decide. Only the burden becomes lighter. Call it God, Consciousness, Source or life. The name does not matter. The body mind organism is simply an instrument through which life functions. Thought creates psychological time. A thought about the past appears, and the past seems to exist. A thought about the future appears, you believe it, and suddenly the future seems real. But where is the past except as memory appearing now? Where is the future except as imagination appearing now? Both are thoughts happening now. There is only this moment. Every organism acts according to conditioning. Your genes, upbringing, experiences, and circumstances shape how you respond. Did you choose your genes? Your parents? The experiences that shaped you? No. The conditioning was given. Look at any decision. Options appeared as thoughts. Preferences arose according to conditioning. One became stronger. Action happened. Where is the separate entity exercising completely independent free will? There is only cause and effect functioning through the organism. If there is no independent doer, guilt and pride lose their foundation. Failure happens and the ego says, โ€œI failed.โ€ Success happens and the ego says, โ€œI did it.โ€ The same applies to others. They too act according to conditioning they did not choose. This does not mean accepting harmful behavior. You can act, leave, defend yourself, or impose consequences. But hatred becomes less necessary. Understanding gives rise to compassion. Even the spiritual search is not yours. The interest appeared. The teacher appeared. The question appeared. You did not decide to seek. Seeking happened. Now look for the separate self. You find thoughts, sensations, memories, feelings. But where is the owner? The โ€œmeโ€ is another thought claiming ownership of experience. There is no separate person who becomes enlightened. There is simply understanding. Do not try to become โ€œsomeone who is not the doer.โ€ That is the ego playing another game. Non-doership is not an achievement. It is seeing that there never was an independent doer. Life continues. Work, love, pain, pleasure, laughter, disappointment. Peace is not permanent pleasure. Peace is the absence of the mindโ€™s demand that life must be different. You did not write the script. You are not directing every scene. Life lives itself. There is nowhere to arrive. No one to become. Only this moment. And underneath all the noise, the peace that was always here.

My dad gave me a piece of advice that has served me well: never make a comment about, or a play on someone's name. You will never impress them. You will only sink in their esteem. I met an old guy named John Lennon once, shook his hand and said "good to meet you Mr. Lennon." You could see the respect and joy at not hearing yet another damned comment about his name. Thanks dad.
