Sitting in the Sanctum in blissful quiet, sipping a strong cup of tea and flipping through a heavy tome that’s simply… hovering… before him. What’s the point of having magic if you don’t use it for some mundane purposes after all.

// I really ought to sleep it’s 8:30 am and I misspelled β€˜watching’ at least seven separate ways. All so wrong even autocorrect didn’t know what I meant. Bbl. When I can.

β€œWho’s making anything a thing?” Stephen chuckles, watching the man creep up the stone steps to the Sanctum door, watching as he inspects the frame as if it would biteβ€” which actually was quite a real possibilityβ€” and pause at the threshold. Despite his amusement the β€”
β€œDon’t make this a thing.” Loki warned; Now with the eyes of the public upon him quickly regaining his normal attitude, and yet… Moving cautiously still, closer to the sanctum, ascending the concrete steps. At the doorway between normalcy and a world filled with magic, β€”

swans past him, cocky and self-sure. Wrapped around the rails of the staircase twin serpents hiss gleefully. β€œHe’s back! The sexy man is back!” β€œOi! Enough with you two, shut it,” Stephen scolds the snake duo, but he can’t disagree with them. At Loki’s remark about the β€”

Sanctum, however, the entrance hall rug now takes it upon itself to coil around the Tricker’s ankle with all intent to bring him to the ground from atop his high horse. Perhaps a touch too cocky and self-sure…

The nuances of teleportation are beyond a lot of those even versed in magic, and while he himself has mastered the art the warlock often finds… hitching a ride as it were… deeply unpleasant. Loki’s proves as smooth as silk, almost invigorating in the way the God’s magicβ€”
β€œI’ve done worse than that, old friend. And it never kicked me out.” A wink, playful. An attempt to lighten the air heavy with tension, weighing Loki down. Then, grabbing a firmer hold of Strange’s shoulder, and in the blink of the eye, teleporting the two right outside the β€”

slides against his own in an unavoidable intimacy only those with magic can understand. Stephen exhales. Untangles himself from Loki, ascends the steps to the Sanctum proper and for a moment he glances back. Considers the God. Then he opens the door and steps inside. β€”

Turning, eyes on Loki, he gestures for the man to come in with a sweep of his arm that flickers a shadow over the entrance hall and gives a sly little grin. β€œIt’ll be fine. Trust me, I’m a Doctor.”

β€œWell… it’s less about me and more about the Sanctum. Let’s be realistic.” Lips curve up in a smile that finally meets his eyes, lighting them up with a genuine happiness that masks the exhaustion. Just a little. β€œIt kicked me out once. For a week. Because I broke a table.”
β€œIf you’d still have me there.” Something was different; It always had been around Strange. His usual mask slipping without effort. Making place for something more… Real. Even the faint smile he flashed seemed warm.

That got a reaction. Stephen whips his head up so quickly it cricks his neck, lips part for words that his tongue refuses to articulate. The scarred hand that rests atop Loki’s continues to tremble as it always has, but fingers curl slightly as if to hold. β€œYes, if you wish.”
β€œHome.” If Stephen wouldn’t say it, Loki would. He remembered the times where he found refuge in the wizard’s sanctuary. The times where he abandoned his owned to trade loneliness for comfort with his friend.

Eyes narrow briefly, then slide closed. Memories of their shared descent into darkness, the horrific canvas they painted across the landscape. The lives they’d commandeered for entertainment. β€œYes,” he murmurs. β€œPerhaps in comfort, perhaps—” β€˜Home’ may be pushing things.
β€œI’m sure that could be arranged.” A small smile; Sly, mischievous. In true Loki fashion. β€œThough I could do withoutβ€” What was it last time? Darkness? I’d much rather have it be out of free will.”

Regretting letting himself be so shaken by the embrace as such he couldn’t relish it, he’s already reaching up a hand to rest it atop Loki’s lightly. β€œFate says you, I make my own future says I. That said, I wouldn’t be entirely opposed should there be entangling—”
Two pats on the back, before pulling apart. Yet palms firmly planted against the other’s shoulders. β€œFate has already entangled our paths once, Stephen. I have no doubt it will do so again.” Sincere, a certainty he usually disguised behind pride and bad jokes.

The pseudo-endearment catches him off guard, though his face shows naught of it. Sea-green eyes may regain some lustre, should one delve into them. β€œAh, friend. Perhaps so. Never have I known the shape of a friend quite as I’ve known yours, mind you, my dear NaΓ°r.”
A twitch, ever so subtle to the point it had almost been invisible. Chin rising; Arrogance? Or blatant confidence? And then, while hierarchy was still being established an embrace that surprised even himself. β€œI truly did. Old π™›π™§π™žπ™šπ™£π™™.”
