Abolish the Welsh Assembly Party Statement on the 2026 Senedd Elections PRESS RELEASE 03.03.26 - 22.55 The Abolish the Welsh Assembly Party today confirms that it will not be fielding candidates in the forthcoming Senedd elections. This decision follows a careful assessment of the new closed-list D’Hondt electoral system and the current political landscape in Wales. Under the revised system, it is highly unlikely that smaller parties can secure representation without dividing the vote of those who question the direction of devolution. After detailed consideration, we believe the responsible course of action is not to fragment that vote. Party Leader Richard Suchorzewski said: "Our priority has always been the Welsh taxpayer and effective governance. Standing in this election would be largely symbolic and risks splitting the anti-devolution vote, potentially strengthening those committed to further entrenching and expanding the Senedd. While we remain committed to the principle of abolition, we recognise that other parties now have a more realistic path to representation under the new system. We do not intend to stand in the way of that opportunity simply to maintain a presence on the ballot paper. This is a strategic decision based on electoral reality." The Party continues to oppose the expansion of the Senedd to 96 Members and will maintain its focus on issues of cost, accountability and performance within Welsh governance. We thank our supporters for their continued loyalty and understanding. Our principles remain unchanged, even if our electoral tactics evolve. ENDS

Merry Christmas to everyone in Wales and the United Kingdom. For many families, the cost of politics keeps rising while public services struggle. We believe Wales deserves better value, better accountability, and better government.

Devolution at its best spending our money on hot air and politicians. 2026 Abolish it.
🚨SENEDD INCREASES ITS BUDGET BY £18 MILLION TO PAY FOR 36 NEW MEMBERS🚨 The Senedd's Plaid Cymru Presiding Officer has confirmed the Senedd will increase its budget next year by £18 million, as a "direct and expected outcome" of creating 36 more politicians. Alright for some.

If you Vote Plaid at the next election this is their plan. Devolution has been a disaster for UK and especially Wales. The left wing nationalists are destroying the fabric of society with their righteousness propaganda. Vote Abolish and end this Madness.

All those years ago,Abolish just setting out the facts. Now Reform and Conservatives have this as a policy. Are they being called Racist? Abolish the only party that has told the truth no matter how hard it gets. 2026 vote Abolish and end this madness.
🚨STATING NUMBER OF FOREIGN NATIONALS IN PRISONS "RACIST", SHOUTS PLAID🚨 Ex-@AbolishAssembly Senedd member Gareth Bennett once stated the number of foreign nationals in prisons. For that, Plaid shouted "racist". The same attitude that led to the Pakistani rape gangs scandal.

It could save 5 times this if they got rid of devolution in Wales. Devolution has failed, Abolish it.
A Reform government would save £100m a year by: -closing expensive government buildings -moving civil servants back to Whitehall, -“dramatically” reduce the size of the Civil Service -also make it easier for politicians to sack failing officials -bring in outsiders to fill senior positions -privatise key services so that thousands of civil servants can be made redundant

Just a shame that they didn’t have a preparation for government in Wales. No policies for devolution and make things better, just sound bites of how things as re so bad. That is why they lost last week. Reform a busted flush. One party one policy abolish devolution and end this madness. 2026 Abolish it

Devolution, we get more politicians and the worst waiting lists. But we cannot employ our own nurses. What a disaster. Abolish devolution and have a health system that works. Vote Abolish 2026 Abolish it.
🗞 Nursing students are being left in doubt over whether they'll be able to secure a job when they graduate. Their university health board says it's because it's had such a successful recruitment drive recently and the Welsh Government insists they'll still get jobs. This is gerrymandering at it worst, ex First Minister saying that the new voting system is rigged. Not one news outlet has reported this. Devolution at its worst. Abolish it.
Former First Minister Mark Drakeford believes the new voting system that his government introduced for the Welsh Parliament 'guarantees' a progressive government after May's election. Here he explains why: #Senedd26 #Cymru #Wales

Congratulations to Lindsay Whittle on His Caerphilly Victory – But the Real Test Lies Ahead The Abolish the Welsh Assembly Party would like to extend our congratulations to Lindsay Whittle, the Plaid Cymru candidate, on his victory in the Caerphilly Senedd by-election. Mr Whittle has been a familiar figure in Welsh politics for decades, and his long record of public service was reflected in both his eloquent speech and the heartfelt way he accepted the result. For that, he deserves respect and recognition. However, while Plaid Cymru celebrate this by-election success, we must also recognise the circumstances behind it. This was a single-constituency vote, and as the numbers show, a significant level of tactical voting took place. In a local by-election, such tactical coordination is possible; in the full May 2026 Senedd elections, with 16 super constituencies and a much more complex voting system, it will be far harder to replicate. The result also shows an emerging pattern: Reform UK performed strongly, but as long as the Senedd system remains structured as it is, the chamber will continue to be dominated by Plaid Cymru and Labour. The only question seems to be which of the two will lead - a shift that may now move from Labour toward Plaid. What remains missing from the Senedd, however, is the voice of those who disagree with the very direction of devolution itself. Poll after poll shows that over 30% of people in Wales support abolishing the Senedd altogether. That is a substantial and legitimate viewpoint, yet one that is consistently excluded from the chamber’s and media’s discussions. The Abolish the Welsh Assembly Party exists to give those people a voice. We believe it is time that this significant section of Welsh opinion - people who believe in the strength and shared prosperity of the United Kingdom - is properly represented. So, while we congratulate Lindsay Whittle on his personal success, we also look ahead. The 2026 Senedd elections will not just be another contest between Labour, Plaid and Reform, there will be a chance for the people of Wales to ensure that the abolitionist voice is finally heard where it matters most.

Why did @Plaid_Cymru win Caerphilly beating @reformparty_uk by nearly 4,000 votes with the largest turnout % ever experienced in a Senedd election? We would appreciate your views!

Reform has stated unequivocally that they support devolution. A new MS stated that if Reform could not make devolution work then it may be worth looking at abolishing the Senedd. @WillHayCardiff your statement is poor with no context behind it. Only Abolish will end this madness. Abolish it.
Reform have suggested abolishing the Welsh Parliament. My newsletter was in Caerphilly ahead of a major by-election asking people what they thought about having their parliament taken away... Subscribe for more content like this (see pinned tweet).

We think @RupertLowe10 is spot on. Abolish it.
Of course we should abolish the Welsh Assembly. Devolution has failed. It's been a disaster. A complete waste of time and money. Wales has MPs, just like England. We certainly don't need yet more politicians in even more layers of Government. Scrap the Senedd.

Good, it’s a complete waste of time and money. Abolish it.
Warning it would be 'almost impossible' to keep the Senedd running if the Welsh government budget is rejected bbc.in/470kotz

Digital ID should not be introduced. You thought devolution was bad, this is off another level. We don’t want it, we don’t need it.
